cut the roof off, or halfway off

Ok before you get mad at me, hear me out. My buddy Jepht20 and I were talking and we would like to see somebody photoshop, possibly attempt to convert a maxima into a convertable. Now, we are in no way saying nissan should ponder this as a serious idea, becuase that would be very ridiculous. However think about the shock of seeing a convertable maxima on the road, not one person here could say they wouldn't be shocked. It's just an interesting concept, and that is what modding is all about isn't it? Rims and kits are all well and good, but lets see some drastic changes on a few. Also my friend mentioned a t top maxima. That would be very different too. If anyone can photoshop any of these pictures, let us know, it would be awsome.

Well, I've seen soft-top Maxima's. Maybe someone should try to PS T-tops on a maxima. Shave off the rear handles and mold the rear doors in so it looks like a slightly extended coupe and put the T-tops in. Just a thought.

ONe thing about this is, that your car in everway would be a safety hazard, since the design struction was altered in a way that would cause it to maybe, crumble in undesireable ways during an accident?

Are you talking about with the convertible version or the T-top version? In any case, I agree that the structure will be compramised. Best thing to do is, if you're going to go as far as making a conv. version, then you should also install a full roll cage. If you are doing the T-top version, then you might just need to put in a partial roll cage where the T-tops reside to help support the roof.

all very good points, roll cage may look cool with a convertable too though.

I was talking about cutting the roof in general, that would cause the whole structure build to go *all-out-of-whack*. Adding the Roll cage to improve the new structure would help a bit, but im not sure how it would react in an accident.

I think that if you weld the rollcage in to the critical points of the car you should be fine rather then tryin to make a bolt-on one. Of course, this requires that the interior be stripped to calculate and mark the critical points along with the actual welding.

If you could pull it off, mad props to you. But I too am concerned about your safety. Even if you could install a roll cage, wouldn't you still be messing with the structural integrity of the car?

Green accord..

roll cage wasnt bolted in.. a friend of mine saw it at SEMA in vegas, pretty funny stuff, the rear doors are welded shut and there is some stability there, but the car isnt driveable... not enough reinforcement..

Yes, that's the one. I know that it's a show car. But if you can use it as reference. His rollcage is ill, the rollcage even had a section especially for holding the NOS bottle.

it was made for him by a company called "monkey bars".. most people weld the monkey bars down, but he just lef this in there.. must have been expensive for that nos bottle holder.. even though the nos wasnt wired whatsoever..

rollbars and frem flex prevention will be necessary...exceedingly necessary. I know someone who did that to a 3g accord.

It can be done, someone did a 3rd gen once, lowrider style though. But if u cut the top structual integrity goes straight to hell, I believe when the 3rd gen did it, he had funll bracing underneath running the length, and width of the car, and a croos brace and then some more support running through the rear, it will take a hell of a lot to keep the car braced, if you don't add any support, i'm thinking the frame will eventually warp just from stress of regular driving

I think I saw a late 80s model Acura Legend with something like this done to it, it was definitely a convertible, not just a cloth roof... weird

Yeah, I think t tops would actually be very cool. Any photoshoppers out there? Give it a try, and a convertable too, just for the fun of it. Give it some rollbars.

That's what I'm talkin about Slickwillie. I think a 4th gen either t top or with rollbars would look ill. Someone did my 2nd generation, lets see the others.

Anybody see the article in SCC I think where they chopped the CRAP out of a Mazda MP3 and made into a 13 second car....not top, no windsheild, no doors, no fenders, no interior, no drivers seat, donut back wheels, ect? Pretty funny. Reminds me of what we are talking about here.
