Stock wheel w/tire weighs 40 lbs, too heavy?
Stock wheel w/tire weighs 40 lbs, too heavy?
I have a 90 gxe and the stock wheels are holding Regatta 2's @ 35 psi. I recently had a flat and was surprised that a wheel with the tire fully inflated was about 40 lbs. That seems a little high when I see the performance wheels coming in at 13 lbs (w/o tire). Does the tire inflated add the bulk of the weight?
Do you guys who have 16"-18" wheels with performance tires see much less of a weight difference, or even more?

No that's not bad at all
My original 97 16" SE wheels with tires weighed aroung 40lbs. I switched to a set of 17X8 Lexus GS400 wheels and with the tires, pushed it up to 50lbs. I then switched to a set of 17X8 SSR Integrals with the same tire model and I'm down to 41lbs.

40lbs is about right. You could probably cut down to 33-35lbs. if you went with a set of Racing Hart rims and some racing-type tires, but that would be super-pricey. Just don't run some huge 19" chrome plated suckers - those will bring you total up past 55lbs., affecting your acceleration.
