Should I remove the Black Box????

I'm talking about the black box type unit that sits under the battery, that was connected to the factory air intake.

Can I remove it? and will it cause any damage to any other parts if I do?

If you have an aftermarket intake then get rid of it. it serves no purpose anymore since all it is is a resonator for the stock intake

just take the battery out and unbolt a few bolts.

You don't need to take the battery out to remove that box. The two bolts that hold it in point out twards the engine and are easily taken out with a 12mm socket. You must remove the scoup as well to get enough space to get the box out of the engine bay.

If you take that box out and remove the pipe that extends to it, that leaves another opening for air for the intake. Only problem is it's right after the radiator fans which are blowing hot as he11 air. Not good.

That black box sits down low and under the battery where there is ample cool air. I took the box out and drilled about 8 or 10 large holes in the side that faces the fender then put the box back in. This gives you another opening for cool air for your intake. When the car isn't moving, the factory ram air scoup is restrictive. Opening up that box for a source of cool air down below I believe releaves this restriction. I did this to my 99 and my dyno butt says... Well lets just say I think it was a good mod. There's cool air down there and now I have access to it. I believe I've releaved some restrictions of the factory intake system, which I don't think is really to shabby, except for the small scoup area.

Give that a try, keeps everything looking nice and clean under the hood, but does open things up a bit.

pardon my ignornance on this but im trying to figure out what black box you all are talking about. ive got a berk/franken intake and i left the stock scoop in with an additional intake hose leading from the end of the stock scoop leading right on the filter. it seems to work pretty well but im just curious as to exactly what the black box is. thanks.

The black box intake mod wount apply to you because your not using the stock scoup as the primary source of air. Depending on what year you have, I think 95/96 have this box hanging up top 97 - 99 has it under the battery tray. It's just a resonator to reduce intake noise. Open it up and you have another source of cool air before you hit the highway and the stock scoup starts to ram what it can into the factory intake system.

Does it actually work? The theory says yes it should, and it's another mod!

I dont think this extra "air scoop" will do anythning for him since I believe hes getting a franken car intake.

Leaving the factory air scoup and tubing in place with a Frankencar or any other HAI/POP will help route some cool air around the intake area. Other then that, your right, it does nothing for performance.
