license plates, wazzup with concealing them?

Here in PA people put these smoke colored things over their plates so you can't read the numbers. Why do people do that when posting photos of their car on the web? Isn't a plate number something that people see every day on the road? Then some people don't photoshop their plates on the web. Are those people more honest somehow? Kinda like people who don't lock-up their offices when they're out, seem less paranoid and more straightforward, honest if you will. Just an observation/inquiry.

since no people here are interested in license plate number except thieves or jealous people, why not just erase the number?

Thats true- but whether they see your license plate and write it down to find it, or just see it on the road, its gettin robbed either way....

agree, but I guess the chance are smaller to hide the number even though don't do much. well, I guess just feel safer. maybe some crazy people willing to take the plan all the way from NY to CA just to crash the car if he got ****ed off. well, if that happen, I think I will win the $100 mil Big-Game lotto this friday. buying a lotto ticket cost a dollar; erasing the number is free and easy.

IMHO, there are a few things that probably started the "smoked licence plate" syndrome.

1) Photo Radar - you speed, you get a ticket in the mail.

2) Red Light Cameras - you run a red light, you get a ticket in the mail.

and up here in the Toronto area,

3)Electronic Toll Roads - you don't have a transponder, they send you a bill in the mail.

Perhaps, everyone else is just trying to get some "outlaw cool" - kinda like the really loose clothing/prison wear thing.
