do you guys go to the store and buy those car wash soaps and stuff? i usually just wash my car with water. i rinse it a lot with water. what about waxing and buffing the car? what would i need and how would i do it? i know... i'm stupid. haha
First thing and foremost, I wash the rims FIRST! This way, if I wash the car first, and the rims last, the water will start to dry up and cause "water spots". The wheels (rims) take time from all the brake dust, so you want to wash this first. When washing the car, I start with the roof first, down to the trunk, and rear bumper. Then I wash the sides along with half the hood from whichever side I started first. Then I wash the front bumper. This order is what I prefer, because all the dirt runs down the car so that you don't have to overwork yourself going over the same sections at a time. For drying purposes, I start with the roof first, the trunk second, and the hood third. I learned from having a dark colored car to dry the "top" surfaces first to avoid water spots. You don't want them to settle in the paint, because they are very noticeable and nearly impossible to remove!
Yes, that's correct, it's best to wash the rims first.
Then I would personally go:
roof
rear windshield/trunk lid top
front windshield/hood
passenger side
front
driver side
rear
Applying waxes and glazes is much different though

Rims first, then I wash the right side, rinse then left side, rinse entire car.
I also use Meguires gold class wash, 3M Imperial Hand glaze, and One Grand Blitz Wax (or P21S) and the car shines like mad.

2 weeks is average. i dont see my maxima every other weekend because of a divorce so thats how it works. sometimes i wash it alot.
i start with hood then goto roof and work my way down. i do rewash the hood just because but normally the roof water doesnt get on it.
i dry it with a shimmy and then a very fine woven cloth to get it really dry.
as for the soap, i use turtle wash(or wax, forgot the name, but turtle is forsure) gold soap, at first i though soap is soap, but then i tried this and its sooo nice. i did a test. this stuff seems to add a wax as you wash. maybe not but when you soap it up and rinse it off, it comes off really smoothly and leaves it looking good. then i wax with meguires gold and apply tire protectants and wheels cleaners, but not in that order.
also i never make the water into a jet or anything, i just let it flow from the hose and put a litte on/off valve on it to save water, i point the hose away when i first release it so the jet doesnt hit the car and just wave the water over the car. some people think the jet cleans better but i think that it doesnt move as much water and just makes an uneven clean. the way i do it evens out the cleaning, as in all the soap flows off evenly and makes it balanced.
