well, i think insurance on a max is lower than the other cars i wanted to get b4 i settled with the max (prelude, accordv6 coupe..)

i have a 99 gxe, i'm 20, and insurance is like i think around $1700-1800 a year for full coverage

I don't think you could pick up a better quality car than a 4th Gen Maxima for the price.

Insurance is good on the 4th because of the 4 doors, etc. I imagine there are some online insurance quote places out there. If you did buy a couple year old car, it would help on your insurance as well.

97-99/00/01 is good enough for you I guess as long as its stick, just find a low mileage one. Do you carry a lot of people? do you need a big trunk? do you sporty or luxury interior? do you mine the rather large turning radius? are you going to do any supension mods if you get it? answer those question then we can help you

The Maxima is a flagship car. Do you need that if you've only been driving for 2 months? Spending too much on insurance is a sure way to waste your $$$. Get a car where you only need liability, then when you turn 25 you can buy a nice car and your rates will drop big time. All the money you saved can be put to use on the downpayment.

Insurance is a necessary evil but a complete waste of money, it's a shame to pay outrageous amounts. I've seen posts where kids say they pay $800+ for their payment including insurance, and that's too much.

If your a racer, get a 97 maxima 5 spd, then add some turbo. You will still be spending less than getting a 00, and it will me fast as $hit!

My girlfriend worked in the insurance business for a few years and she said that maximas shouldn't cost too much on insurance mainly because they don't get stolen often and you rarely see them in an accident (unlike Accords, they have very expensive insurance). The thing is you're inexperienced, with less than three years driving. That makes your insurance higher. I don't know where you're from so I can't tell you how much they put on your insurance extra because of you age. But ballpark figure for a monthly full coverage payment would be around $200 (policies come in six month or one year however), but all these other people are saying higher than $300... they must have their parents on their policy too, because $300 a month is WAY too much. Don't go looking and comparing prices at insurances places because you are going to get the same quote, they are all the same don't be fooled in to thinking one company is so much better than another. My g/f sold Integon/GMAC policies and she recommends that from her experience. Whatever you do, do not go with Progressive. If you get a ticket and its your first ticket it won't go on your insurance but you still get points so drive safely and be careful. Hope this advice helps.

Getting a used Max...

...with high miles/OK condition shouldn't be hard to find. Most Middle aged parents/people drove them and kept them in decent condition.

Be more careful when looking at 5 Speeds, owners might have beat the Sh*t out of them. Make sure it has not had any suspension damage.

or mod out the "ORIGINAL" Sentra SE-R (92-94?) and whup *** on the road as a sleeper car.

Call around to check with several different companies. You WILL NOT get the same quote from different insurance companies. They'll probably all be in the same ballpark, but will not be the same. Some companies may not even cover you if you are the only one on the policy due to age/experience. Ask around (especially people like your friend's parents who have had insurance for awhile), and see what local companies/agents they recommend. Consider what coverage you need; things like deductible, uninsured motorist, comprehensive coverage, liability limits, etc... Also think about service, because if you ever have to make a claim, that becomes real important really quick. Insurance companies compete against each other for your business. However, they must weigh the risks of covering you when giving you coverage. Young, inexperienced male = high risk. Some things can lower their perception of the risk. Clean driving record, a driver improvement course (not necessarily driver's ed), good school grades, being on your parents policy, multiple vehicles, married &/or children, etc... Shop around.
I can tell you my situation. 32 yr old male, married, children, 2 vehicles, clean driving record (wife, too) on a '97 SE through State Farm (excellent service) = $100/month. That's for an all the bells and whistles policy. Good luck.

Dave

insurance on a maxima is CHEAP

that is why i'm selling my integra to get it.

my integra i'm currently paying $300 CDN /mth .. and this is BEFORE i had my license suspended :/

The fact that the integra is the top stolen vehicle doesnt help either :/

anyways i looked into a maxima and my insurance agent told me it was very cheap, should be below $300 even after my license suspension.. just i now have a $1000 deductible :/

but reading about what you wanted "not too many ppl, no big *** trunk".. i'm not sure why you are considering going from a eclipse GST to a 4dr sedan... with the stuff that you listed it sounds like you just want another sports coupe..

Heh...you've had your license for 2 months, and yet sold your last car years ago? And then want to buy a maxima because "your friend has one and you like it?"

Well, first off...I'd think insurance on a GS-T would be quite a bit more than a 4th-gen maxima. Insurance is pretty calm for my 4th-gen, it's a slight bit more than my old 91 integra LS, expected with a newer car.

Personally I'd do more refined research to find exactly what you want. But I'm big on researching purchases and hesitate a lot before pulling the trigger, and I know some people aren't (as in, some people call it good on research after deducing "I like my friends maxima" and after coming on a maxima board, asking people if they should get a maxima, and then saying "Oh yea! They all told me to get one, so I should!")

If "u R a racer", well...it's hard to say what that means. If you want to be somewhat creative and put some work into a family sedan to make it run in the 14s or lower, than a maxima would be a good choice. If you want something to own the drags and are seriously looking at drag competition, get something like a Grand National or an older g-body domestic. If you want something that'll own the local SCCA autox, I think the max is the wrong call. However, if you just want pieces of all of the above and also want the fruits that a family sedan has to offer, the maxima also fits that niche.

I wouldn't expect it to perform, drive, ride, and respond (improvement-wise) to modifications like your GS-T though. If you like the ride, handling, and performance of a sports coupe, stick in that area.

Or just don't do much research at all, pull the trigger and get a maxima, buy a bunch of mods and have someone else install them, and convince yourself and all the local high school kids that go out street racing on the weekends that you have the fastest car on earth. If that's what'll make you happy, then why not?
