Question about claying

The Clay Magic come with a bottle of spray. I'm assuming that this spray serves mainly as lubricant for the clay bar. If so, has anybody clayed their car when their car is wet? I mean right after washing the car. Or is does car have to be dried first then sprayed?

You can do it when the car is wet, it doesn't matter. When I ran out of spray I just mixed some (car) soap and water in the bottle and used that. Worked just fine.

I have the Zaino clay bar and they suggest car wash soap mixed with water in a spray bottle. Just spray the surface area you are working on then clay away.

how many uses have you gotten out of your clay bar??

i bought the mother's which says that it is good for 3 to 4 uses...at which point ya have to buy anohter kit (and I say kit because i have yet to see a retailer sale the clay bar without the spray and the wax)

are mother's and zaino the only clay bar makers out there??

Remember this, water alone is NOT a lubricant!

I got 2 uses out of my mother's clay bar, but it was the first time the car had been done (It's a 96 GLE) so it picked up a lot of material. I've used my new clar bar once and it looks as if it could be used antoher 3 times. I also have yet to see a mother's clay bar outside of the kit. Hope that helps.

ms.thicknes - there are several different clay bars out there that I know of: Mother's, Zaino, Meguires, Clay Magic and Pinnacle Polyclay. I've used all of them except Pinnacle. In fact, I just found a site with Pinnacle polyclay and might give it a try. So far I like the Clay Magic the best - very soft and pliable and works very well. I wash my car, leave the water on it, then clay while spraying a little of the lubricant on the paint.
