You have it made - the 15's are ideal for winter tires. Get some agressive all season tires (or even some winter tires like Blizzaks, or Michelin Alpin's although I think that's overkill for Philly weather) in the same size and get yourself a set of 16" or 17" wheels with summer tires for the rest of the year. The car seems to be fundamentally good in snow as long as you excercise RFR (right foot restraint) and the rally guys have empirically determined that tall skinny tires are best in snow.

For 205/65/15, I would recommend either Bridgestone RE930i, or if they have it in the size, Dunlop SP5000. The Dunlop D60A2's are good in dry, but not too great in snow (it's an old design).

SP5000

I didn't check to see if they come in your size, but I have them and even in 235/45/17 they do pretty well in the snow and the mud and in the rain. When I had 15's I had Bridgestone Eagers and they also did well in the snow, but they aren't really performance tires. I think the SP5000s are better though, but it's tough to make a direct comparison because the size is so different.

dunlop D60A2

our other maxima has 215/60/R15 dunlop D60A2 tires..they stick like glue on dry and wet compared to the stockers. haven't tried it out in icy weather, but i'm sure they are good as well. i highly recommend them for H rated all seasons. has anyone tried firestone SH30's? they get higher ratings in tirerack.com.

If I remember correctly, the OE tires were Potenza RE88. Potenza RE92 is still a great tire (Still OE for the G20). Don't go to the Firestone across the street from Matheson Hall, they rip you off badly. Goodyears are not worth the money. How about Michelin Pilot XGT4, my family's cars all have MIchelins except for mine, BFGoodrich Comp T/A HR4 (MIchelin owns the BFGoodrich Tire name). I've found (last year's snow) that my BFG's are pretty good in the snow, only to get stuck on 6" off unplowed snow at the corner of 36th and Race Sts.

two tires

that I think are good personally are the firestone firehawk sh30s. But then again, they are firestones--and I have had a problem with the new tires that I bought not too long ago (2 months ago).
For bridgestones, the re910 are very good in the rain and slush because of the tire design--and they are fairly inexpensive, but they only have a speed rating of T (which is what? 112mph?)--but realistically, do you think anyone in the proper mind-set will be doing 112mph in the rain and slush?

i second that. haven't not rebalanced my tires (yet!) but good lifesaving wet tire handling and 215/60 should fit stock rims.

Bridgestone Potenza RE930

I have em and love em. Much more than the OE Goodyear Eagle GSA's and the Toyo Proxes H4's I had after that.

I used to have the RE930's on my stock wheels too. They were excellent. Even better than my current Dunlop SP5000's (on 17" rims) in my opinion.

woah...i take it you go to drexel? i would never go there if it was the last tire place...im gonna order from http://www.tirerack.com and have a friend put them on the rims and balance them etc...

i noticed someone has mentioned the firehawk sh30's...they were at the top of my list but the only thing holding me back is the whole firestone thing...i know they are excellent tires from experience (my dad put them on his Grand Prix GT) and people i know that have had the dunlop d60 a2's made the switch to the firehawk's and have been pleased....should i be concerned about the whole firestone issue? i know the problem lies in there suv/truck tires...

no. it's a recall based on two tires, in one size from an entire product line

thats my thinking but you know...once something happens to a company (especially of that nature) you begin to lose faith in the quality of all their products...

not necessary. nissan has an sensor recall for the vq's back in '96 but now has a 240 hp version (in the pathfinder) that might go in the next z car so my confidence is currently at an all time high with nissan. this firestone incident got out of hand all companies have (maybe less dangerous)situations that consumers don't know about

Like Ford and Mazda's 5 recalls on the Escape/Tribute since their intro?

I had D60 A2's on my 88 Camry, hated them, wore horribly and fast. Ditto with my old roomate's GTI. I wonder if you could drive down to Newark to pick up the tires from Tirerack straight from the warehouse?

Yes I go to Drexel.
