how to get bolts of when rusty????

I did lowered a 94 LS Integra with Maxspeed Coilovers and the top strut bolt just did not want to come off...Had the springs compressed and used a 12mm hex tool on the screw to prevent the whole bolt and screw from turning together...It just didn't want to move at all and used WD40 same thing...Is there something that I should know about it or like a rule of trade to learn???

vise grip the top and use a open end wrench to free the bolt.

Look up some stuff called "Kroil". This stuff is balistic when it comes to penetration.

but sometimes no wd-40 or any other oil will work. I was lowering a 94 integra too, and this one bolt would not come off. It was like the rust within the threads formed a permanent weld.

when the bolt wouldnt come off even with a breaker bar and penetration oil, I think the best way is to use an air wrench and get that sucker out. If you keep trying to loosen a bolt that is rusted in so tight, the thread will still not turn, but the bolt head will break off. Thats what happened to me once.

nut splitter
or in a pinch drill a hole into the nut...than use a screwdrive or a chisel and split it in 1/2.

BTW, Kroil penetrates to 1 millionth inch spaces per the web site.

I tell ya, this stuff is hard core. Rust or no rust.

I've never used Kroil, but I really like PB Blaster. Also can use propane torch (depending on where!) to heat the nut & bolt, then a breaker bar. When using penetrating fluid (which WD-40 is NOT), always give it a few minutes to actually penetrate. Worse comes to worse, a Dremel does a decent job in those tight places (Hack saws work, too).

Here's what I can tell you about it:

Product: Aero-Kroil
Made by: Kano Laboratories
Phone Number: (615) 833-4101
Do they take orders? Don't know; haven't bothered calling yet.

That place looks to be about 20 minutes away from me.

Daniel B. has mentioned "Kroil" here a couple of times, but didn't ever allude to where he got it or could get it. From what Matt told me, he got his through his dad's business contacts.

The 3rd gen (real forum) guys have this link where some have ordered it:

http://www.mcfarlane-aviation.com/aeroKroil.htm

It's a bit expensive....I wanna say $10 or $12 a can.

I installed Maxspeeds in the fronts (no REAL problems) and then I moved to the back. I pulled out the rear strut/spring combo, compressed the spring, and couldn't budge the top nut to remove the top spring seat. I noticed both of the nuts were COMPLETELY rusted. (which baffles me, because they're inside the car) I turned the top nut and the whole shaft of the strut was spinning around. I used a wire brush to get off the excess rust, and used penetrating oil, but no luck. I still turn the shaft. I think I'm going to have to use a nut splitter to finish the job.

Great suggestion, I've used the propane torch method too...

Just enough to heat up the bolt though. Heat is also one of the best ways to remove applied loctite.

Good luck! At least you are in better shape than my neighbor. He has a 90s era Taurus and broke 2 (not 1, but 2) bolts off in his block when swapping a thermostat. Then, he broke the easy-out (imagine really hard steel)!

He had to have it towed away to a shop that charged him $300 to repair.

Good luck!

umm u guys who suggested heating it up..
heat and compressed gas in a strut is NOT a good idea.

heat works great for exhaust bolts and etc.

The local "if we don't have it, it don't exist" (Strasser True Value) hardware store here in KC has it, I think it's about $8 a can.

PS - I mean a real hardware store, not that Home Depot crap.

Another vote for PB. I'd be pretty shocked if it didn't work.
You can get it at AutoZone and Checker/Schuck's/Kragen or probably
just about any other major parts store. It's only a few bucks for a
can so you have nothing to lose. I think it's AMAZING.

I ran into Kroil in one of my other hobbies, Military Rifles. If all else fails, call you local gun store/smith.

I bought a Dremel Rotary Tool and a whole lot of special attachments to handle just what you ran into. Now that I am prepared I haven't had any problems. I think the damn things know when you are prepared!
Go figure!
