2004 Maxima Picture...6th Gen
Old news.......
In my opinion, i would like the 6th gen to be FAST, cuz i dont like the idea of the Altima being almost (or even faster due to lightness) faster than the Maxima's....Maybe some RWD (everyone loves that) 8 speed tranny (thats a joke), and all that other good stuff i dotn want to mention since its been talked about like a bagillion times...

Look on the bright side..they won't ever make the Maxima slower. Unless they screw up like Mitsubishi with the Lancer EVO VII compared to the EVO VI.
I thought the VII was faster than the VI. The VI looks tighter IMO though. The VII has a smaller ball bearing turbo for less lag and lighter parts in the engine. All japanese car makers underate thier engines in japan. The skyline does not push out 276hp nor does the lancer. More like nearly 300. The OZ lancer in america is garbage though with its cool 15" garbage rims.
About the 6th gen....it looks........futuristic
It looks pretty cool, I guess it just take some time to get used to. It would be cool if nissan put a VQ35DETT in it

There's debate as to whether that is the new Maxima or the new Altima, also.
I'm probably buying an Altima 3.5 6spd for my next car.
The Maxima's going to turn into a grandpa-boat.
I love to drive my Dad's Caddie when I visit him, but I sure as hell won't own one.

Now THAT would be a nice powerplant for a 6th gen Max. (pipedream)

i test drove the new altima and maxima in the same day, and the impressions left by each car werent the same, the altima to me seemed it wasnt worth the sticker of 25, i though the interior was somewhat bland, although it had a smooth ride, handling wasnt that great at all, and i hated the torque steer on it... after that car i drove the nissan maxmia in 6speed, and within 15 seconds of being in the car i was amazing, chirping the tires from 2nd to 3rd...the handling was amazing, in conclusion the altima will come no where near where the maxima is, it may in size but the road dynamics of the car are untouchable
- Don't forget that Nissan has moved Maxima production to the States. If you haven't already got one, don't bother. Quality is on its way down.
- From what I read in the mags, the 6th gen is sticking to FWD and a V-6. I imagine that they're going luxo-cruiser. No more 4DSC. Sigh...
- I did get to go for a ride in a G35 at an AutoX a few months ago. VERY nice car. Power was phenomenal, brakes were incredible, ride was comfy and sporty. It was great... and the coupe looks even better. Just wait a year and you can take your pick between a G35 6-speed, the G35 Coupe 6-speed, or the 350Z. At least Nissan has other cars to amuse us.

If they are going to market the next Max as a sports sedan, they should've made it smaller/lighter than the Altima (about 180"-185"), keep it FWD/AWD to not threaten the G35, and make it sharper and more performance-focused than the Altima. That way, the Altima becomes a sporty alternative to the Accord/Camry. The smaller concept Maxima is a direct competitor to the Audi A4. And the G35 stays as a 3-series fighter. Seems like a lot of cars for so few markets.
That's why it makes more sense for Nissan to build a big super roomy car. I just don't think they should call it Maxima. And believe it or not, I also think they should not make it look like a bloated Altima or GS300/430, too edgy for older folks. A full sized stoogy-looking car has no place in Infiniti but Nissan, yes. A boring looking sedan like the Avalon will no doubt sell.
Alas, it appears Nissan is going to have a big sporty Maxima much in the same vein as the Pontiac Bonneville.
