Attempt to get Maxima Model Matrix from Nissan NA

Well, I went after a contact in Nissan NA to try to get a matrix covering all years and models of Maxima, the production numbers for each, ratio of manual to automatic transmission, and colors since people are always asking for data like that. Here is my discussion...read from the bottom up.

I hate to lower the boom, but....it can't happen. The data is not something easy to obtain, as there is some analysis involved by a few groups....I'm sorry Michael!

Tim,

Certainly, I understand that it is not a project that anybody wants to undertake just for kicks. I was hoping that this sort of data might be more readily accessible to you. If you knew of a more public source for information like this, I'd be glad to do the research myself.

I'm afraid there is no grand purpose for this. I am personally curious and intend to share this information within the automotive enthusiast community since the questions come up quite frequently.

Thank you for your time.

Regards,
Michael

Michael -- I'm sorry, but I'm not really equipped to dig out the information you are requesting and don't have direct access to it, and I'm reasonably sure the Product Planning/Marketing/Distribution groups could not/would not "dig it out" unless they knew exactly why you need it, who you are with, etc.

I hope you understand. Thanks, T

Tim,

I am searching for a product matrix which outlines the production numbers of the Nissan Maxima through its lifespan. The matrix I am hoping to find would include total production numbers for each year and breakout numbers for manual vs. automatic transmission, colors, and special editions (like the '99 LE and the '01 AE). Please do point me in the right direction.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.

Regards,
Michael
It was a nice thought anyway. Maybe I shouldn't have asked for so much. Oh well. Ce la vie.

Exactly - They are lazy. About 2 years ago, after not being able to locate a search/list of Nissan certified used cars on the Nissan website, I called Nissan to ask them about it. They told me "it couldn't be done as there are too many cars, dealers, etc." I told them that Honda, Acura, Toyota, and BMW all had this search available on their websites (I'm sure others also, but I those are the ones I had searched recently), but they stuck with the "can't be done" line.

This kind of information some Nissan marketing manager should already have on his or her PC. They are just too lazy to send you the numbers.

So funny, again it makes me think of Roundel mag and the BMW Car Club of Amer. Not only do thay have that for a car as new as the Maxima (whoa, it's like 21 or something), they could tell you everything you ever wanted to know about a car that has stopped production for that long. That's the difference, BMWCCA and BMWNA have a relationship. It's not about business, it's about enthusiasm. Do I get excited seeing every different kind of 2002 (the model) BMW that was ever produced? No, but people my grandpa's age do. Maybe even my dad's age. 20 years from now I highly doubt anybody is gonna be talking about the 98 Maxima vs. the '01, the name will have probably been changed by then. Heck, they can't even get excited about it after only 5 generations!

I agree 100%. If I was representing a nationally recognized car club or a magazine focused on building the enthusiast community for Maxima's up, then I might be able to get the numbers together.

I do not agree that some marketing guy has these numbers on his computer. I asked for an awful lot...somebody has documentation which reflects what I asked for, but if it is raw data then someone will have to mull through it to make it look like what I want it to look like. Plus, if Nissan NA were to provide it, it would probably have to go through legal and corp communications to be sure it didn't include any data which was inappropriate to share externally. I think it is just not data which is readily available and they have no compelling reason to waste cycles aggregating the data for me or anybody else on this board.

I was thinking about this the other day, to bad we can't get the info. Anyone have a good guess on what percentage of Maximas were sticks? I saw the number 10% thrown out once.
