what would be a good price for a clutch install?

so i get back in town a couple days ago and come into this horrid upper 90 degree Kansas City weather....i get in my car yesterday evening to go out with my g/f and i notice a few things....

1. clutch pedal feel kinda.... NOT stiff, maybe it was because i hadn't driven in 2 weeks?

2. clutch slips like all hell.

SO, since my oem clutch has a little over 118,000 on it and i abuse the hell out of it on a regular basis, i have a feeling that it will be going out soon. i really want the ACT and i know that is going to cost me a pretty penny but how much should i expect to pay for the install?

What's involved in replacing the clutch?

Do you have to remove the transmission to gain access?

If so, would it be a good time to install a Quaife differential and lightened flywheel?

Just looking ahead.

Trevor-

Get in contact with Guido(Dave). He's set up a deal for Maxima owners at McCarthy Nissan in Olathe. I believe we get 15% off of labor and they said they would install aftermarket clutches. I plan on going to them when my clutch goes out because I know they do excellent work and I'd much rather have someone who's installed 150 clutches on a Maxima instead of some cat that only installed a couple. McCarthy deals exclusively with the Z guys too.

I paid $525 which included having the flywheel resurfaced. This was not the cheapest price I found but this transmission shop is the best in town. A good shop is worth the extra money when installing a clutch.

So it's $400 just for the install? So replacing the clutch costs around $800?

clutch install

cheapest I found in the Cincy area was $250 but he didn't warranty the ACT clutch, just the labor.

back to this old thread no one ever came up with a good price. Bottom line dealers charge $350.00 $370.00 and here in Atl they resurface the flywheels unlike some dealers in Lousiana.

My mechanic quoted me $240 just to drop the tranny. So I'm going to do it myself.

A decent tranny shop will charge around $260 to $350. Dealerships will charge more and the quality of work might be worth the extra cash. I got quoted at $480 at a nissan dealership. Hope these numbers help

I gave this mechanic $150 and 1 ounce of bud to install my clutch. He did a good job. I made sure that i gave him the bud upon completion. haha

Cost me $75 for a new breaker bar and a 1 1/2 in socket to remove the axle nuts, already had the rest of the tools... Do it yourself, save a LOT of money...

Pep Boys is another option - $250 with warranty on labor, I think.
