Question for those with 18's re: Spare tire well

Is the well big enough to hold a spare 18 (on a black steelie with non-low profile rims). I think the diameter increased about .4 inches switching from stock 215/55/16s to 235-40-18s, so I don't want to be left holding my pants if I blow a tire.

I guess having that 16 in the trunk is pretty useless eh? lol

you have a fullsize spare tire??/ - luky guy, well yeah, if you keep the overall diameter the same, it should fit. but the problem is that your going to put in a wider tire, that may cause a small problem

You'll still be okay with the spare (it might pull a little to that side but no biggie because you shouldn't drive on it for a long time anyways). Do you have a full-size spare in right now? If not, there is a lot of work required to put on in, you can't just stick it in because the spare is a lot thinner and the new wheel will stick out about 3" of the wheelwell.

You have space in the trunk for a 18 inch wheel you can also stick your 15inch stock as a spare thats what I use to do but now weight is an issue since I get picked on sometimes since I am now here in a bigger city Atlanta , people just want to mess around since I have a slow maxima!!!!

Good point - the tire is a bit wider

and this might bulge the floor of the trunk.
As far as another full size Evo sitting around, I WISH! I scraped an edge of the rim (just a tiny mark), so if I could justify an extra wheel I would, but oh well.

I'll likely stick with the 16" spare

that's what's in there now...

And I really feel sorry for you Jay. Must be tough having to drive that sluggish, Vortech breathing Maxima. I think you should sell it to me for $1.00 and I'll give you a set of gerbils to put in your wheels that will run around and help them spin faster

It definitely will. The spare is very skinny, I mean the tire may be 3.5"-4" wide fully inflated. When I put in a stock 15" the wheel pushed the carpet out atleast 2". Keep in mind the whole cardboard covering of the wheelwell will be elevated but not the rest. You can't really put large things in your trunk like this, and anything you put in will be unstable. The best way to take care of this is to make a fiberboard cutout covering the whole floor like I did.

That's exactly it... the underlying hint of homo-eroticism that gerbils bring with them... lol
