3rd Gen guys beware........

I just replace my sisters right rear window regulator. Once again, Nissan produces something with design flaws. I'm sure the more I rip a Maxima apart, the more I will find. Some of you remember my sunroof rebuilt where something broke because of a design flaw, now it's the window regulator.

My sister has a 93 GXE and her window wouldn't go up or down. So, I rip the door apart to find that the cables that control the height of the glass is tangle to hell on its roller. There are tracks on the roller to keep the cables from getting tangled but guess what, its made of cheap nylon plastic. So the one time my sister rolls her window down, the cables jump off the track and gets tangled up within the roller.

Luckily the part was in stock and it was about $76. Sorry I don't have a write up but this job is easy as hell to do.

cool

that's a very common problem for 3rd gens
Courtesy supposedly has improved "re-engineered" regulators according to their website, but I would assume other nissan dealers have the same thing

also, it's too late now, but I already have a how-to with pics of window regulator replacement on my site

The apparatus you speak of is not limited to the 3rd gen. The 4th gen cars had the same thing. I had to put mine back together after it broke and tangled itself. Big mess

I figured this was to be true also. 3rd gens have been out in the elements longer though and I figured that time has started to decay the nylon and make it soft.

Its not just the Maximas. My gf's 95 240SX has that problem on the driver's side. We bought a new regulator from Courtesy but had problems changing it. We're just going to take it to pep boys, they quoted us $63 for labor. Esserman Nissan quoted me $240 just for labor.

I saw that dude (can't remember his name scheider or something) on Larry King Live. I thought he was a little guy but that dude is my size. From MT Vernon NY I think, I thought he was from Alabama or something. He's on a crusade against fat kids for their own good.

Yes, very common problem. One good thing about the 3rd gen is that any problem that goes wrong is usually well known.
