I doubt that you're correct.
It was a PA ticket I had where the officer had my driver's license number TOTALLY wrong (long story), but just to play it safe, I successfully plea-bargained down to 5-over and NO POINTS.

I would think that the operator's signature on the summons is indicating the receipt of such. Maybe the law says the operator is supposed to inform the officer if the info is not correct. Who knows, but imho if an officer mistakes a color, such as nayvy blue for black, or a digit is wrong, etc., it shouldn't release someone from their obligation. just my .02
Your insurance premiums DO NOT go up if you get a moving violation unless you TELL your insurance company about the ticket or open a NEW policy in which they would check your record.
The only way your current insurance company would up your premiums is if and when you make a CLAIM and cost them money. When you cost them money you are more of a liability, and rates go up.
Now you may say that if you get a speeding ticket then your are "more of a liability", maybe so....but the insurance company doesn't go checking every one of their customers driving records every day.

Good Luck,

Years ago I got a parking ticket (fire hydrant) and the ticket had the wrong license plate # written on it (officer wrote down the tag # of the car on the other side of the hydrant which was by far closer to it). I went to court but still had to pay the ticket. He wrote down the make and model of my car. There was no way to prove that I hadn't been parked to close. I know of people who had incorrect information written on a ticket for a moving violation and the ticket still stood though, if you go to court you usually can get it reduced if you have a good driving record. I live in Maryland.
Good luck!

For example, I live in Illinois and we have a very extensive tollway system around Chicago. I can't even COUNT the number of people who have told me that they have had a "friend" who has gotten a ticket in the mail for not paying a toll because their license plate was caught on camera. Funny thing is in Illinois there is a LAW against mail citations.
My source of information is my girlfriend's dad who happens to be a State Farm agent.

Well how about this... i got a speeding ticket last year for 55 in a 35, didnt tell the insurance co. but a month later i got a letter in the mail from them about how because it was my first ticket, i wouldnt get a surcharge but my drivers step would go from a 9 to a 10. And when i got my details for the next years premium it says speeding on it and the date of the ticket. This is in MA by the way where insurance sucks!

Re: I got another ticket but the cop wrote a whole differant Plate # down!
OK I just found out that here in CT the DMV only turned over 40% of violaitions to the insurance companies. I also found out that my insurance company only knows 1 of my 8 violations in the last three years!

What are you talking about? I got in an accident, and my rate went up after that. Then I got a moving violation and got kicked off the policy. You don't have to tell the insurance company, they will find out when your policy comes around for renewal.

It depends on the STATE also.

Also in VA- the court sends the info to the dmv who sends info to your insurance comp. I had like 3 charges from when i was 16/17 and they all got added to my insurance. (none of which wer speeding) They said if I got anything else, they woud drop me. Its been over 3 years (time it takes them to be deleted) luckily bc i just got 2 more tickets this year, so now im back to where i started
if you RE-READ my original post you will see that I CLEARLY stated that accidents and changes in policy (ie: renewal) are EXCEPTIONS.
I do know the legal system works in mysterious ways. In my brushes with the law, which number 5 incidents that made it to court (well, one I took a class for, so not exactly to court, but you get my point), 3 of them ended up with strange consequences. Add in another governmental agency middleman in the DMV, and sure, things get lost/skewed/etc. But I wouldn't rely solely on that afa your insurance co not noticing a moving violation.
Check with an attorney in your state to see if that particular mis-information can get you out of the ticket. Here I don't think it would - there just has to be really one valid indiciation of ID.
If the licence number of the car was written down incorrectly, consider this;
Try to find out the name/address of the owner of the vehicle that the license number is actually for, then ask them to complete an affadavit to the court sating under oath that they did not allow you to drive their car on that date, and that their car was in a different location.
If the prosecutor asks you questions to try and recover from having their evidence proven incorrect by asking questions like;
"Well, did this officer pull you over on that date?"
"What car WERE ou driving then?"
Answer; "I choose to invoke my 5th Amendement privelidges at this time."
This is exactly what the 5th is for - you have the right to not incriminate yourself. Provide the evidence from a 3rd party witness that you were not speeding in the car listed on the violation, then they can only prove you were driving *a* car. Do no incriminate yourself. your closing statment, if you get one, will be; "The state presented their evidence that I drove car X at high speed on this date. I have shown that I was NOT driving this car on that date. I contend that this shows resonable doubt. I respectfully ask that in the absence of any other evidence against me that the court dismiss the charge, or find me not guilty."
I would do this if the same ticket were handed to me.
( I do not have a license to practice law in the US. This is not legal advice.

wohoo!!
thank god for that!!
The kicker is that the plate # wrote down is for my Maxima but I was driving my Jeep
. I think he pulled me over so many times he had my other plate burned in to his mind. I had about 1glbs in the way back behind the seats and told the officcer he was on drugs and no way I "squealed" in to second and that I can't even really do it with no load. Then he went on his little speach about the police having a long record on my driving and that they are watching me. I was like sorry I use to drive like a A@@whole 6 months ago but now I drive good.

Unless you can prove that it was impossible for you to squeal the tires then it's your word against his. (read you will lose)
I don't know about the plate thing. I know minor differences in the ticket don't matter but the plate is a pretty big thing. Maybe sit in a court and see if that type of thing is grounds for dismissal. Or bug a prosecutor about it.
At the beginning of the trial, you can always state, "I requested this ticket be grounds for dismissal as I wasn't driving the vehicle license plate XXX at the time of the incident". All they can you is refuse.
