because i live in central fl and roads are maintained pretty good, i don't have to look out for too many potholes but i've had no problem with my 18's even when i went over a curb to park at a magic game, and they fill the wheel well just right when the car is lowered, glad i got them instead of 17's, and the ride is not bad at all

wheels are way cheaper these days,
i saw a flyer today, here's an example: Oasis alloys
Virus-Amo-Titan-Torq-XS
20" $300.00 each
18"$209.00 each
17"150.00 each
i may start a group deal some day

No doubt. Like I've said before, I paid $129 ea for 18x8's, and $131 for Sumitomo HTR+. Looked in an old Road & Track and my rims used to be over $300 ea. Regret that I didn't pick up a 5th at that price just in case. My buddy with the 323i SP came down and visited me and told me the rims look nice, because they're not the typical 5-spoke that you sse alot. Of course the 5's have made way for 6+ now. It's well, yes, alot about style, but quality too. If you get a Bruno Magli shoe that's 1/2 price because it came out in fall 2k1, is it a bad shoe? Of course not, but you get a big break in price because it's not the latest. Nothing wrong at all with 17's. Just that if a person is upgrading, no brainer, go to 18's. It's now the sweet spot for value. 19's are still pricey. Originally posted by 97blackv1

well... I got 18" this week... (need to retorque the damn suckers today) I drive around all the time in Queens, manhattan, LI, some brooklyn... So far don't have too much of a problem with the potholes... they feel the same as the 17" stockers I had. Not sure of the strength of the rims though... got SSR GT1s with Sumi HTR+ 245/40s.
If you are still deciding... go for the 18"s if u want looks and decent performance... else... just stick with your stockers... if u don't feel like blowing wads of cash away...
(but since i got new wheels... it's like i got a new car!!)

But yes, I do feel slightly quicker acceleration off the line with my stock 16's compared to the 18" Enkei's
