does the key work? Have somebody pull up on the trunk while you press the button(or key). I think you can take a metal hanger, undo it and mess with the latch through the hole in the backseat.

ive been trying that (pulling up on trunk while someone else hits button) with no luck. the hanger thing might work if my stereo wasnt in the way and i had room to undo all the trim pieces to get to the latch. anyone else?

and no more dumb remarks, AUSTIN

I had a similar problem with my trunk a while back. If you hit the button (either on the remote or the inside door panel), you would hear the latch pop, yet the trunk would not open. However, the trunk would still open if you used the key (maybe you've tried this, but you don't mention it - you keep saying you use the button). If it does open with the key, the problem is probably with the location of the release "trigger". When you hit the button, it flips a trigger, that makes contact with the lock mechanism and opens it. The trigger had shifted down, and therefore wasn't making contact with the lock itself. It was easy to pull it back into position and it has worked fine ever since.

If you've tried the key, and it won't turn the lock open, then you've got bigger problems. Call a locksmith...

My bud had a similar problem and the solution was to remove the rear seats...then work your way into the trunk....there...have someone push the button while you push up on the trunk...and make sure nothing is keeping the trunk from moving...you'll need a flashlight...hope that helps

It sounds to me like the valet switch is turned on. Have you tried the key? If the valet switch is on then the button won't work but will make a noise. As for the switch... Its in the manual!

There is a switch that you can flip that wont let you open the truck with a button, only key. Its right there near the lock inside the trunk. You just flip it up or down. You can crawl into the trunk, but you gotta take off the seats and the metal shield, its pretty easy to get in afterwards. My trunk got stuck 2 weeks ago and broke a key in it. Thats how i got in there. And i had a 3 cuft box in there that I had to twist out of the way.

ok i just read that in the manual too. my latch was sticking before and i wiggled it around to loosen it so the only thing i can think of is i must have hit the valet switch. problem is, i dont know where the master key is. i bought the car from my uncle and he must have lost it. so i have to get in the trunk which is going to be hard with my stereo in therafter you got in there, what did you do? can i get to the latch my taking off the trim panels?

Shouldn't the key you're using for your ignition work in the trunk lock?

Unless you have remote start, but I didn't think that was possible on manuals.

apparently not because it isnt the master key.

If things get really bad, you'll have to pop out yoru trunk lock and change it. The way the trunk lock is held in is a joke. there is like a flat piece of metal that slides in behind it that holds it in. It has lieka tiny handle on it. You ahve to take off the cover from your trunk lid to get to it. It will be right by the trunk lock, pressed against the metal right where the hole would be where the lock would pop out from. I suggest you pull that tab out so you can pull the trunk lock from the outside, and then you can turn the whole lock assembly which should open your trunk. after, id just try to figure it out.

ok i have CONQUERED MY BASTARD OF A TRUNK! i took your guys' advice and climb in from the back seat and moved my stereo out of the way (which was a pain) and manually popped my latch with a screwdriver. the thing that has the cable attached to it (the latch i guess?) had worked itself loose and move over about a 1/4 inch and gave a little slack in the cable. that is why it wouldnt unlatch all the way. oh well, mission accomplished, thanks guys!

For future reference, the only difference between the valet key and the master key is the size and spacing of the long grooves on the side of the keys; the teeth cut on the edges are the same. You should be able to make a master from your valet key if you get the right blank from the dealer.
