Clutch Recomendation...

I was wondering if any of you can recomend a clutch that gives good performance, but still holds longevity? Please let me know your experiences in the clutch world.

If you drive normal then it should last longer. However, most people who buy the ACT usually boost and chirp 1st, 2nd, as well as 3rd for fun sometimes so it may shorten the actual life but it shouls still give you a good 50-75K miles.

My mechanic races SE-Rs and he swares by the ACT clutch system. I'm not a authority on the Act clutch, but my purchase of the clutch set came from researching and talking to Org members about the best clutch to buy for my Max. Your best bet is to ask some of these wise Org authorities who can give you the best information on your question.

I would recommend doing a lightweight flywheel while the clutch is off.

VERY NICE!!.. I'm still in the break in process.. Its really hard to not just punch it.. But i'm holding out. Its nice when your able to chirp 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th at times..

Its pretty expensive but I think its worth the money. ACT clutch is great with the factory flywheel also. You'll notice lots more grab, also you'll feel alot more torque then with the stock clutch.

You can order any of the following clutches from me:

ACT, Blitz, HKS, RAM <---hardcore, only if you are building a 9 sec car.

Would the unorthodox lightend flywheel go with the ACT street clutch?
Does anyone have that set up?

You should not have any problems with that setup. You'll have to adjust the way you feather the throttle as you accelerate because of the different characteristics of the clutch grabbing along with the quicker throttle response due to the lighter pulley. If you purchase the UR pulley, sand down the anodize plating on the pulley where the belt would touch. This gives it more friction and less likelihood of belt squeel. That portion is not visible so sand away.

Thanks.
Why would I get the underdrive pulley? That has nothing to do with a clutch & flywheel install right?

Correct, the UD pulley is in the engine, not the drivetrain. You can do the UD pulley independent of the clutch/flywheel installation.

Got my ACT clutch from Pablo!

Check this out - ordered in on FRIDAY! Got it today. He's in Miami, I'm in Ottawa-area, Canada.

I'm very impressed. Having it installed on Thursday, along with my Addco RSB.

Thanks to Pablo(jhans) (and yeah, UPS) for the quick delivery!

Mike

Re: Got my ACT clutch from Pablo!

I got the ACT street clutch installed 15k miles ago, and its still going strong. One thing to mention:

Yes, its a great clutch, especially if you tend to have a lead foot. But do NOT expect this clutch to feel the same as the stock clutch does. The length of engagement of the ACT clutch (as well as pretty much every other aftermarket clutch) is much shorter than factory. Its a little fussy in stop and go traffic (chatters a bit when its hot and you've engaged it repeatedly for a while). In addition theres more pedal pressure required (not a big deal unless you do a lot of stop and go driving).

I love the clutch, but I thought its worth mentioning in case you are looking for something that will feel the same as factory, just stronger (the ACT is stronger but does not feel the same).
