is there a target on my door?!?!

What the heck! I've gotten 3 visibly huge chips inches aways from each other on the side of my passenger door, in the past 2 weeks by parking next to idiots who think its easier to get into their cars by slamming their doors onto my car first!!! I just got a fresh one an hour ago at Microcenter Cambridge by parking next to a POS car! I'm thankfull the guy in the Audi S4 that was on my drivers side cares about his car! It's bad enuf the 5th gen Maxima paint is worse than white out, one hit will probably take out a square inch of Nissan's "fine" flagship paint.

I know the obvious solution would be to park far away from others, but at where I work and go to school, the lots are always full and I'm forced to take any spots availible. Its already pretty good that the space next to the BMW 540i is free when I get to school. No scratches from that guy so far.

I'm seriously considering my friends suggestiong of installing spikes on the side of my car!! That'll show dem punks!....or 3M protectant film would be more realistic, if they make em...anybody know??

.......ok, I'm done ranting, sorry for the long post.

Check this site out. In this months SCC they used it on their project Subaru, the whole car. Some people here use this 3M stuff for the hood but accoring to SCC this site has custom cuts for the entire vehicle. I just viewed the page and they do have something for the Max. Give them a call...

You can't win. If you park too close, arrogant lazy people hit your door. If you park too far out, somebody could break in much easier.

I still find it best to park next to a BMW or a Benz...they usually won't want to waste their time or spend 3 grand fixing a tiny scratch on their cars...even if they could afford it. Too bad a majority of Boston drivers, drive POS cars.
And as for a potential target for a thief....I'd think they'd go for the big money car you just parked next to.

Anyhoo, most of BMW and Benz owners care about their cars more

That's true most of the time... but my dad drives a Benz and I sure as hell wouldn't want to park next to him the way he drives! But the chances that there'll be a spot next to one of those isn't big. I think the best thing to do it put an extensive alarm system on your car and park as close as you want so if somebody opens their door into it the alarm will go off because of the shock sensor, and they'll feel much more guilty and fess up. Wow that's a long sentence.

What annoys me the most though is when people go up to look in my car and start touching it and crap. WTF? I don't want their grubby fingerprints all over my car, much less their beltbuckle scratches! You can admire people's car form afar too. I would never go right up to a Ferrari to admire one, I can do that from far away. And although my car is no Ferrari the same principle should be applied. I mean it's a parking lot, not a car show. It would only make the owner nervous. You just can't win no matter what you do.

I know what you mean. I'm trying to keep the dings off my 2k2 so it doesn't look like the 2k did after one month. Have you noticed the parking at Microcenter sucks? The lot's painted stripes are so close together that you can't even get out of your car. The lines are like UNDER your doors. My suggestion is to park along the wall by the door whenever possible.

My theory on the carelessness is that we're in a disposable leased society these days. Let's face it, you lease, what do you care, it's not your car. Do you take a rental car to the car wash on a business trip?

I took alot of pride in my car when it was new and made it 5 full months without any dings. Now it's a joke, all 4 doors have dings.

I go to this plaza in S Philly and for some reason the S Class is the most popular car. I'll see a S600 and S500 AMG park tightly next to other junk cars. That tells me they lease--if your car listed for 127,000, would you park so closely to others? I mean our cars are 1/10 the value of those. Same thing in AC casinos, you see beautiful cars simply park in those tiny spaces next to junk. If you owned, I think you'd use the valet to avoid body damage.

The best ding that ever happened to me was when I was sitting in my acura in a parking lot....and an old guy with his wife parked next to me, and the guy just flat opened his crown vic door into my passenger door...twice...with me in the car. I rolled down the window and shouted something at him, but he just gave me a senile "What am I doing here again?" stare...

I haven't really had probs with dings in the max, but I don't really drive it to many ding-prone places. Just the state university, and I usually park in shuttle bus parking on island spots, and hug the curb.

Those parking spots are straight from hell. It took me 5 tries to get OUT of that spot (Bad turning radius *sigh*)...the S4 guy just stared at me, buffing his front hood, while he was waiting for me to pull out so he could get in his car. Man...I looked like an idiot.

Even the far away spots are usually loaded with cars at Microcenter. Next time I'm claiming a wall spot! I usually try to stay away from the "Trader Joes" Parking area, I dunno what kinda people go shop there
