AutoLock - Security device does NOT work.

AutoLock - Security device does NOT work.
My car was broken into.
Damage: window broken and ignition cylinder was popped. For what ever reason they did not get away with the car.
Anyway - I had the autolock on the car, the security device that locks the clutch. They got through it with no problem. I'm not sure how, but the autolock was just sitting there, in perfect working order on the passenger seat...
Thats Newark NJ for you.

I don't think it works as well on the clutch as it does on the auto/brake combo. There's a relay for clutch inhibiti lock under the hood. I'm sure there's some way to bypass it.

Yea, but it doesn't work in either case because they simply picked the lock and took the thing right off.

Maybe you didnt have it on very tight and they just turned it sideways and pulled it off. I know that when I put mine on, if i dont tighten it a certain way, it just falls to the floor because of the way the pedal is shaped.

Damn is there any way you could take a picture of it?

Well, it kind of worked.. Appearantly the time it took to do what they did was a little longer than expected, therefore, they didn't get a chance to finish the job.

I've noticed there are at least two versions of the Autolock. I think one is a copy made by another company.
The one I have uses a flat key with a pattern of small indentations.
It should be very hard to pick.
The other one I've seen uses a circular key, like the ones used on sonme soda pop machines. I've seen companies that sell picks for that kind of lock.

I'm sure it helps delay a would-be thief.
I have an Autolock and the Club both, I bought the Autolock after I found out how crappy the Club was.
As maxxed said, the Autolock keys are flat and have indentations cut in to the key, not the side.
The Club has a 4-sided key where the 4 edges are grooved, similar to a regular padlock key.
I use both, just takes longer to pick / break 2 locks

I mainly use it in "bad" neighborhoods since autotheft isn't rampant (yet). Best thing was I got it for cheaper than the Club and it has the flat keys.

See, I got my Club from Ebay for pretty cheap (brnad new, $20+) and I got my Autolock from K-Mart (store closing, auto 50% off, $27)
Dirt cheap considering you could pay twice as much to buy it retail.

When my max arrived from New York (I live in Seattle), there was a weird 'device' mounted to the right of the shifter. In pictures i'd seen before buying the car, i thought it was a cel phone hands free unit. Turns out its a burly shifter lock. A U-bracket about 3/8" thick hardened steel is placed around the shifter (in 4th) and locks into a bracket that bolts to the interior of the car. I never use it, unless i crash at my buddies house in the ghetto, but considering nobody knows what it is, its probably a pretty good theft deterrent??

I've got the Club's version of the autoloc. It uses a flat key. In anycase, it is possible to mount it loosely. The shifter lock is also a useful device. I know that there is a company out there that has a device that connects to the starter and requires a special chip to activate the car. It's supposedly proven unstealble. They say that even if you dissconect the device, you won't be able to start the car without the chip. I'll have to dig it up, I think that it's in an old issue of Import Tuner. I'm a bit lucky though cuz my car has deadlock locking system from the factory. Once activated, all the door locks and handles cannot open the doors in any way so the only way to enter the car is to climb through the windows. Hopefully everything works out for you.

they can prob snap it w/ enough force...crow bar perhaps?
it's bolted to the tranny/exhaust tunnel...bend it a few time and fatigue will kick in.
no matter what..it's going to slow them down...that's what you need.
