300zx brake conversion

i have searched this topic numerous times, but am still vague on the correct procedure. the directions on maximadriver.com say to mill 3mm off the RADIUS; and the people here on the org. have said 3mm of the CIRCUMFERANCE. i want to do this conversion asap because i have all of the parts laying around my house. so all of you that have done this procedure, which is correct? thanx for your time,

Justin

I am curious as well. Radius or diameter, I doubt it's circumfrence that wouldn't be a typical measurement for this type of application. If it is radius then you will need to take 6mm off the dia.

What is the dia. of the 300zx rotor anyway?

I have owned one of those 92 300ZX TTs and the brakes are the biggest downfall. They go but do not stop.
I would not do it.

maxima brakes are worse, mine failed on me twice.. i guess it all depends on what type of pad, fluids and lines you run too.. i have poterfields r4s, powerslot rotors, goodridge stainless steel lines, motul600 stoppin' my car.

Do you think 2k2 Max brakes are better than the 300ZX TT brakes?

nope..
i have the 91 300zx twin turbo brake set up, the rotors are slightly thicker on these than the other z's that translates to, better heat dissipation (sp?) but higher rotational mass meaning more unsprung weight. nonetheless i still would recomend em'. i plan to eventually upgrade to even bigger brakes, but for the time being i'm sticking with the z's (money issue)

A TT is much heavier than a Maxima. The 300ZX front calipers an brakes are a great upgrade.

I think the 02 Max brakes are better than my 92 TTs, as there have been 10 years of improvements and let's get realistic: the brakes on the new Maximas are excellent and the 300 TT guys were quick to upgrade as I did.
The weight of the TT was a bit more but it had lots more tire.

How many pistons do 2k2 calipers have, probably not 4 right? If not I'd get the 300ZX TT calipers and upgrade the rotors, pads and such, like this setup:

Benefits of Z brake conversion:
Higher heat capacity, and 4 pistons.

BUT
if you have x drilled maxima rotors with Hawk or Porterfield brake pads with SS lines. i guarantee you it will stop just as well.

if you're gonna race on the track, then i HIGHLY recommend hawk or porterfield RACE pads to prevent fade.

Z brakes are cool but wont fit certain rims. PITA>

well when i go down south i'll let u see if the rims would fit on my car, then u'll kno... and dont' worry i won't drive away with em'.. i don't like the "i have 3 18" wheels + one stolen rx-7 rim" look.

Sounds like a plan! Hopefully the 4th gen and 3rd gen caliper mounts are in the same place......
