Ok this might be dumb, but has anyone noticed that when you close the door on the Maxima, it sounds good? I know the 4th and 5th gens sound good (don't know about previous generations) compared to many other cars, especially American cars. Back in 1996 my dad and I sat in a whole bunch of cars at a car show and we both agreed the Maxima's door sound was the best. Don't remember much about Hondas and Toyotas, but they weren't bad either. I wonder if Nissan "tuned" the sound of the door closing.

Yeah, the Maxima door closes better than domestic cars.

But compared with Camry, it's no contest. The Camry's doors close much better than the Maxima, just like a Lexus (well, it is practically the same as an ES300). One thing I did find is that the 2000 I30 has a nice door closing sound...very solid and quiet. I wonder if 5th gen Maximas have the same feature. It was distinctly better than my 4th gen.

Go up to the Mercedes or BMW area at your next auto show (or a rich friend's driveway) and play with the doors on those cars. Sounds like they weigh 1000 pounds when you close them.

Dynomat

IF you have ever been in a car with lots of dynomat in the doors it sounds like a vaut too. If you take off the door pannel and throw a good helping of dyno matt it will make the door closing sound and feel way cooler. Nice and solid

I noticed that too. The doors on my Maxima sound great when closing. Noticeably better than any other car I have heard.
