Isn't the VR6 a 2.8L engine? Or what does 3.2 in your post mean?

There is a stroker kit available from Abt that takes displacement to 3.1L, but I don't remember performance specs.

If I remember correctly >>>>>

the VR6 bored and stroked to 3.1 liters makes about 280 FWHP or over 300 crank hp, I have never heard of a 3.2 liter, I always thought and heard that 3.1 liter was the limit. If he has a quaiffe diff he will be hard to catch and beat. Those Golfs only weight about 2700-2800 pounds.

have not really tried to race a golf before, but have raced my friend's 93 corrado...its a VW coupe with the VR6 engine couple times...supposedly the gearing of the car is better than the golf's (faster). we both shut it down at about 70mph...but I didn't overtake him neither did he...we were side by side the whole time...and I've an automatic.

think either he is stock or chipped...vs mine with mods like y-pipe, intake and aftermkt muffler.

but if it was a rolling start...think it might be a diff story...autos suck big time!

btw, I've sat in a MK III (the model before the current one)golf VR6 thats got a stroked engine (3.1L ot 3.2L)...with all internal mods...cams, valve springs...etc (read every N/A mod possible and imaginable short of forced induction) and it was FAST!!!!

though I've nothing to compare it with...since we were doing short blasts on the road and testing the suspension in twisty country backroads.

This guy said he has gotten his car up to 145 with pedal to go. I am just wondering if he is full of **** or not. I mean if that is true there isn't much point to race him, and since he has a 5spd it will be hard for my auto to get him off the line.

You could race him for fun, but I wouldn't put any money onto it.

I had a friend with a Yellow 99 VR6 Golf. We raced several times, I would beat him handily (with about 2 carlength lead) I was running a 15.1 with my auto Max then.
We both went to E-Town, and sure enough, the best he could pull was a 15.4, but all his other times were in the low 15.5's ( a .50,.51,.53)
If the guy has any type of mods (like the P-flow intake) or exhaust, you'll be in for a good run. Just remember this:
TAKE THIS MATCH TO THE TRACK!!!

If he doesn't have mods I think you can take him->

I race them all the time no problem for me. But I have a couple of mods,The reason for this is weight over the years VW are getting heavier and heavier. There no longer strip down pocket rockets. I would say go for it but don't bet any money.

A stroked VR6 almost by definitions has other mods

Do not attempt. A 3.2 would be very fast.
It surprises me how much money people will spend to avoid forced induction though. That's a very expensive setup IIRC

Incase u haven't heard

Another car that uses a 6 cylinder 3.2 would be the M3 pushin 240hp, of course a bored out 2.8 to 3.2 would probably have around there and considering he weighs a lot less he would kill you, my friend has an A3 GTI VR6 and we are about even i can pull away more on him on higher speeds like after 90. Now he has no mods its stock - 174hp add another 60 or so and he would humiliate me.
I WANT NOS, S/C to expensive rite now, anybody have problems with a NOS 60shot, i mean nothing to big to kill my car. It will have 90K miles this weekend.
