How do I fit an Optima?...

Just curious is all that's required I chop the top off the battery box? So the terminals reach fine and I don't have to remove the top completely? Also which model Red Top should I be looking at for my 4th Gen?
Thanks,
-Cyrus

get a 1 inch thick plexi glass and put it over hte top of the battery.. then it will work.. i would get the yellow top.. even though the Red Top is a bit better.. you can drain the yellow top fully and then recharge it.. but i would do that because i have a sound system.. you might need more crankign power so you get the red top..

Couldn't I put the plexi-glass underneath? And it will still fit in the battery box? I would rather cut the box though, would that work okay?
Thanks,

4th gens that don't need the Yellow top should get an Orange top so that the positive and negative poles facilitate easy installation.

technically you could.. but thats going to be a piece of plexi glass the same legth and with of the battery.. where as you could just get a piece the same width and legth of the tie down.. its up to you..

Okay I see how it fits and I think I'm just going to cut off the top of the box, and lower the tie-down. Thanks Sprinty.

The problem with the fitment is that the optima batteries are shorter then the stock unit. The tie downs aren't threaded down far enough to clamp down on the shorter battery. I just put a few larger nuts on the tie downs to fill the space. Then tightened up the stock nuts. Works like a charm. Oh I also removed sides off the stock tie down bar to fit flat on the optima. Gotta love a hack saw.

I answered this in the 4th gen FAQ, but I just took some scrap wood and put it underneath to "boost higher" the battery. The terminals fit fine.

Or you can just buy new J-hooks that has enough threads.

or you can buy two "nuts" and slide them over the J-hooks(on top of the battery tie down bar) and build up the height for the securing nut(stock) hense making it tighter and leaving you enough thread to tighten down the battery!!

...then you have to buy a polished battery tie down from MAX8MYCASH
