Chat room on IRC for maxima.org members?

Anyone know if there are any channels on IRC for maxima.org owners? If not, I hang on EFNET frequently, and would love to get one started. Would be cool for all of us to chat live about the stuff we love.

Any thoughts?

I used to go on efnet a lot (back in like 95 and 96). However, since then I have not used it, especially since the advent of AIM/ICQ, etc. However, if you build it I will come.

i tried this about a year ago...not enough people jumped onto it.

no one here seems to spend enough time on IRC...

I chill on EFnet too, have been on and off since ~97.

Lets get it started back then! I was on Undernet back in 96 and moved to Efnet in 97.. been there off and on as well ever since.. Fun to just chat about stuff you enjoy.. much like the forums only real time. Though IRC is still no replacement for the forums. Unless you log every single channel, every second of every day

P.S. what are your nicks?

I'm on as replicant or rep|icant depending on if this one fool has stolen my nick or not.

Easiest way to get started is to go to www.mirc.com and download the latest version of mirc. Setup the basic connection stuff when it asks you to, after you first install it. Then make sure that you choose a server on the EFNET network, i use irc.homelien.no or irc.qeast.net or irc.prison.net

Then you can search for one of our nicks by doing /whois rep|icant or /whois SoFineGuy (just a couple examples). If one of us are online, you can send a privatemessage to us by doing:
"/msg rep|icant hi there replicant!" (minus the quotes of course)

THats about it.. oh to join a chat room do "/join #chatroomname"
(minus the quotes, but you must include the pound/number sign)

Good luck.. I'll try and secure #maxima or #maxima.org or #nissanmaxima heck why not secure all 3 I can just join them from my server box, i'll see if some of my nerdier friends can let me "borrow" some bots to hold the channels open.

I put some bots in #maxima, and #maxima.org - let's all try to get something going?

FYI : to get on, use irc.secsup.org (I'm on Efnet - my nick there is x-fire).

Let's sit around and see if we can get some chatting going

Someone should get an old P133 machine, t'row a flavor of unix on there, and get it to run in coordinance with the maxima.org domain, so that we can just use a private server, ie irc.maxima.org, as an IRC server!

Then again, what am I talking about? I just dropped IRC from my habits fairly recently and went to pure IM clients...on-demand communication, less susceptible to idle-age I always spent too much time at work monitoring my IRC window to see if anyone had woken out of idle...

I've been really engrossed with too many things to do lately.. but my bots are still in there and it looks like we're finally seeing activity : they key is to idle until somebody talks

I've been on irc since 93. Nick is Axel. I mostly idle now since I work. I'm on the channel right now and since I stay connected 24/7 I should be on for a while
