Will a GReddy EVO Exhaust fit on a '97?

Hello,

I've been doing a lot of research lately on this. I really like the look of the EVO more than the SP. I found out that it *might* be able to fit my 1997, however I have yet to hear a definate answer.

This thread is a debate that we had in the 4th Gen. forum about this, but we're still not 100% sure.

So, does anyone know if the EVO will fit a 1997 Maxima?

Thanks,
-Nick

it's possible that it fits the 99.5 and up since there were some changes that year made.. don't quote me on this

dashingmax called Greddy and they said something totally different. But he said it will bot right on. Someone else told them it wouldnt fit 98s and below. My best advice would be to go to a Greddy dealer and have them order one if it dont fit they can always get you the SP or give your money back!!!!Especially if they dont have it in stock. They have no choice but to give you your money. The EVO does look more aggressive if you ask me. I got an SP and is alright looking

Well, I already have the SP. But, if the EVO fit, I was going to switch over from the SP.

What are the differences between the exhausts from 1997 to 1999. The car's are the same, so if KrZyMaX fit it on his '99, I don't understand why it won't fit a 1997.

The exhausts (catback) from the '97-'99 are the same. The only difference is that the O2 sensor on the '99 is on the catalytic converter. '97 and '98 have the O2 sensor on the B-pipe. Worst case scenario I can see with ordering the EVO and making it fit is having a shop weld a bung for the O2 sensor on the mid-pipe of the EVO.

even on the 2ks you have to still have that bung thing installed for the O2 sensor. Robvandam just installed his and he has a 2001 SE. So the catback has no hole for the O2 sensor. The catback for 97-99 those already have the little O2 sensor hole.

If it fits on a 99 I dont see why it wont fit a 97PLUS!!!same body style

OK. Let's say that I go ahead and buy the EVO. When I take it to the exhaust shop for install, I just have to tell them that they're going to have to weld a bung on the B-pipe for the O2 sensor. Is that going to be a big deal?

Thanks,

So, should I order it? I mean, if it doesn't fit I could always sell it to someone on here.

99 maxima's are the same looks as 97 and 98 .. but electronically and other parts.. they are the same as 2k+ maxima's..

any muffler shop can custom job something for you.. probably cost you $80 for cutting and welding..

But what would they have to cut? I'm assuming that all the piping is the same length from 1997 to 1999 since the body is the same, so I thought I'd only have to drill a hole for the O2 sensor on the B-pipe. If I go through with this, I'll probably just wait until my Cat comes in (already on order) and I order my Y-pipe. That way I'll just get it all done at once and save on labor charges.

Thanks,
-Nick

i can't tell you why.. all i know is the 99 shares most of its parts with the 2k.. some have 2k ECU.. among other things..

thats why stillen superchargers are 95 - 98 and 99 - 2k1

I'm not challenging you Sprint. I know the '99s are different because the FSTB is also '95-'98, and '99+. I'm just trying to determine if the catbacks are the same (aside from the O2 sensor location).

Thanks,

i tell you this.. ppl have gotten 2k mufflers to work.. so any good muffler shop will be able to get your EVO to work.. just will cost you about $80 .. try a mom and pop muffler shop.. they are more willing to go the extra mile doing custom **** for you than the big chains

OK guys. I think that the EVO will fit. I just read this in the thread that we had in the 4th Gen. forum a couple of days ago.

So, if the catback exhaust is identical on the '97-'99 Maxima (aside from the O2 sensor), than the EVO should bolt right on. The only thing is that a bung will have to be welded on for the O2 sensor, which is no big deal.

I think I'm going to go ahead and order the EVO. I just want someone to agree with me here. This does make sense right? What do I have to lose? I'm going to have my car in the shop getting the Cat and Y-pipe installed soon anyway, so I might as well find out for the Maxima.org community if this thing will fit.

If it doesn't, I can just keep my SP and sell the EVO. If it does, than I'll just sell my SP.

Just wondering.

Does the EVO put out more horsepower than the SP? Or give a different exhaust note?

I think it's tone is different than the SP. The horsepower is the same. I personally want to do the switch for looks. The EVO is a lot better looking than the SP IMO. Plus, it will be different because hardly any other 4th Gens. have this setup (only 1 that I can think of).

Thanks Sprint. They actually look pretty similar, at least the catback part which is what I'm concerned about right now.

Think you can help me?

I'm in the other boat. I want to put a GReddy exhaust off of a 96 on to my 2k2. Do you think i could get this to work as a custom job?

OK. I definately think it will fit though. We know that the '97-'99 Maximas share a catback exhaust, but the '99s have the 2k+ Y-pipe. Since KrZyMaX already has it on his '99, then we know it will fit all 4th Gens. On pre-99 models, the O2 sensor hole has to be drilled.

Do you think the Evo Muffler will bolt on to the SP b-pipe? If this is the case you would have a EVO/SP combo. That way the 02 sensor issue wouldn't be a problem.

Not to mess this post how are you guys planning on just getting the Pan by itself? Greddy told me they would not sell just the pan you have to buy the complete kit from a Greddy dealer.

You'd really hack up a $500 exhaust system ?

My thoughts exactly.

Besides, my CEL is already on with the SP. I think the shop messed up my O2 sensor on the SP, so I'm going to a different shop this time around.

Hey guys,

Here's an interesting thing I just discovered. My RT Cat got delivered today. The invoice says "RANDOM TECHNOLOGY CAT 1997-2002 MAXIMA". So, I'm guessing the only difference in the exhausts from '97-'98 and '99+ is the Y-pipe (and the muffler on the 2k+).

Greddy Update

I finally got the UPS shipment yesterday. I took my Greddy & the warpspeed test pipe, sealed in their boxes, later yesterday, to get it installed. They remove my stock cat-back (a real PITA) and the cat.

The Greddy came nicely packed & says, "Made in Japan"... I like that
They open the small box, the test pipe. Very good quality. After they see the test pipe, they make me sign a waiver that said that the stuff they are doing is for off-road use only & they are not responsible...blah...blah...blah.

Now, onto the big box. It turns out they sent me the freaking SP. Yes, I recieved the Greddy SP and not the EVO. When I called the vendor, he said that since the EVO's don't fit my model year, he sent me the "correct" Greddy part for my car! So, I just had them install the SP. It fit like a glove!

Sorry guys...but someone else will have to try the EVO on 4th gen thing.
