clear rears story
found this a while ago on a civic faq site
"I had installed a set of clear rear lamps on my white Civic and was very happy with them. I had them around for several months without a worry, until one sunny afternoon. I got rear-ended while coming home from work on [the freeway]. The car that hit me was another Civic and damages to our cars were tremendous. The Police reported that the red Civic was coming at me at about 70mph on a 65mph freeway. I stepped on my brakes to avoid a slow-down in front of me. I think I slowed down to about 20mph. The red Civic gave his account of the accident and claimed that due to the clear lamps, the he didn't see me braking and couldn't respond in time. I have a third brake light on my wing so he should have saw that one. Total estimated damages resulted in the upper $10k. The red Civic sued me. We went to court and during court, the judge ruled in favor of the red Civic because of the illegal lighting that I had used. I pleaded with the court by saying the product was sold at a reputable automotive shop and there were no warnings as to its legality. Also, the shop said that it was okay to be install on my car. But again, the judge denied my claims and said that if there was a problem or misunderstanding, I should take it up with the shop. Meanwhile, he awarded the plaintiff (red Civic) $6000 for damages. My insurance company cancelled my policy as soon as they heard of my accident and the cause. I was left to pay for repairs for both cars out of my own pocket. I spoke with my insurance company and demanded an answer to why they have instantly cancelled my policy. Their answer was that they can't be held liable for inappropriate use of vehicle or its intrumentation."

I remember when a lot of cars had all clears with white lights. Pissed me off cause I would be blinded when they braked. So I would try to stop behind them, and get real close and then turn on my highbeams. So when they drove away, they would be blinded from behind....
