Nitrous question~ Do I need to retard the timimg....

I'm currently running a Zex nitrous kit(55 shot) but I want to raise to a 75 shot. In the directions it states that I need to retard my timing by 4 degrees. What's the purpose of this and what happens if I don't retard my timing?? Is it really neccesary??
I was also told by Zex representatives that Nitress Express has the same jet sizes if I wanted to raise it to 100 shot(soon planning to If I happen to do this, do I still need to retard my timing??
I already have colder spark plugs and Walbro FP (thanxs Jime). What else do I need??
Jime as helped me greatly in the past and hopefully I can get some more info from you guys.

Do you "need" to retard timing to run a 75 shot: no
is it a good idea....yes.

The only ways to retard timing on our maximas is either a JWT chip for Nitrous or a J&S Electronics Ultra Safeguard

The reason you'd want to retard timing when running nitrous is to reduce the risk of detonation. Your colder spark plugs help. Running 93 octane helps, and retarding timing would be the ultimate engine protection while on the juice.

Personally, I've run a 100-shot without retarding timing and it ran just fine.

These engines will take a 125+ shot of nitrous on pump gas without 'having' to retard the timing. The reason is that they're only running 15 degress BTDC whereas they could run 20. Count thata s being 5 degress of timing thats already availible for you to use.
