Guys, is an aftermarket Sunroof Worth It??
Dang, Nick, you're the one I forgot to respond to! -->
Well, I have had one good and one bad experience
First off, the sunroof in my car is an older version of this one found here.
It's a Vermuellen-Hollandia, although it seems there name has changed to just Hollandia. It's a German company, and a complete fluke that I got a sunroof made by them from an installer my Nissan dealer chose when I bought my used 94.
All I can say is it took them a whole week to do it, but boy was it worth it! Haven't had a rattle yet (that I can remember), and the roof has been great. No leaks, etc. VERY positive experience.
And then enters my '99 Max with a fairly POS sunroof. The thing INCESSANTLY rattles and sounds like it was cheaply put in there. It only took them a day to do it, though. The roof doesn't leak or anything, but it just seems inferior to the one in my 94.
So the moral of the story is shop around to death every sunroof install place you can find! Get recommendations, references, input from local dealers, etc. The only way to get a good sunroof is to get a good installer.
And make sure the sunroof model you get is on display, has a tilt and slide feature, has sunroof glass that is already 20% tinted, and has a retractable sunshade.
The Hollandia sunroof has these features, and a number to contact them is (248) 486-7100. They can tell you a dealer in your area that installs these sunroofs.
Oh yeah, the price? Probably between 1200 and 1500 bucks for a GOOD job. A $1000 or less job will probably be inferior.
My $.02

I was shopping around...over the summer. In Towson-Lutherville, MD, there's a ASC dealer and installer. I takes 4 days to probably install one according to them. THey add a roof brace and route drain lines. I've seen places where it takes about an hour to do, use a recip saw on the roof, slap the sunroof in, presto, done. And suprisingly it costed the same.
