Waxing rims????????

Should I wax my rims?? I worry that the wax may hold brake dust or does the dust come off easier with the wax?? Never waxed my 99 SE rims and cleaning the dust took some abrasive cleaner. Dont want to mess up my new ride. Thanks for the input.

I use a wash and wax to clean my rims, works great for me, and it doesn't hold the brake dust at all.

chrome or alloy wheels? i've never waxed my rims, but my understanding is that waxing prevents dust, etc from sticking...making them easier to clean.

I've done it... it's actually much easier to wipe the brake dust off when they're waxed. I wouldn't normally bother but in this case the rims were sitting in the garage off the car so I went as it. When perrymaxima saw my Max he noticed they were waxed immediately.

yeah
i do it when i wax the car

after that, for like 3 weeks you can simply wipe the dust off them with a cloth or a paper towel. Comes right off without any effort.

plus wax gives them some of that shine in the sun when it's just put on

Yes you can wax your rims but it will take several coats to get a good layer of protection thoguh especially due to the heat in the wheel area.

I did not wax my rims for the fist few months I had them. That was a mistake. They look and clean up much better now that I wax them every few weeks. I would think it would only be necessary to wax painted wheels? I also use a poslih first and it looks that much better.

I used to wax my chrome wheels for like the first 4 months that I had them. I couldn't tell at the time, but was providing great protection. The first month, I stopped wax'n em, I noticed the chrome began "pitting" in all the crevices. I think wax on rims is a good idea. Just like your paint, it seems to seal up all the little microscopic holes protecting it from the elements. Although I think this would probably be more of a concern for someone with chrome rims.

Yeah, I wax my rims after I wash the car. Oh... most of the times I just leave it there (didn't buff it off). It isn't that obvious if you don't look closely.

I've waxed my stock hubcaps and aftermarket chrome rims on my integra before. Works great to repel the brake dust and makes it easier to clean during regular washings too. Haven't done it on the Max's stock rims yet. They're easy enough to clean.

I think you should wax all wheels/hubcaps. Even most chromed and machined rims have clearcoat on them. The wax makes them look better, easy to clean, and protects them.
