that went out years ago. when was the last time u heard an alarm go off and thought, "jeez! someone's car's in trouble, better get on the Bat phone!"
it would be cool to put the horn INSIDE the car. that thing is loud! imagine trying to rip off a car w/ that horn blast going on inside the car

It's because for a while there (like in the late '80s and early '90s) all those aftermarket alarms were set too sensitive and would go off if it rained too hard or a loud truck went by, so everyone got complacent about them. Also what Chris said. I probably wouldn't chase down a possibly armed thug, even if it was my car -- my kids need me around.
I don't know about the '00 Maxima (haven't played with it yet) but in my '00 Alty there is not actually an alarm. It has the keyless entry, vehicle immobilizer (ignition cutoff) and a panic button which sounds the horn, but if you open the door when it's armed (like reach in an open window and unlock it) or break the glass nothing sounds -- prolly cuz they know no one pays attention anymore anyway.

yup.. I know lots of people that have put 2-3 sirens inside the car, some even including smoke generators and strobe lights..
hurts your ears and looks cool as hell too.
it'll definitely attract attention..
the smoke is basically intended to keep the would-be theif from being able to see anything in the car to steal it. there's enough smoke that even if he did get the windows down, you still can't see well enough to steal/hotwire the car, let alone drive.
the strobes serve dual purposes.. one, it blinds the guy trying to steal the car. your eyes cant' adjust to the flashing lights well enough to see what you're trying to do, and it also attracts lots of attention.
BTW, I'll be adding 1/some/all of the above to my alarm sooner or later.
