'Just out of curiosity, if your going to use a centrifugal like the Stealin' kit, what are you going to do to reduce the cost? Are you just going to take a smaller profit since I doubt you can reduce the cost of piping, clamps, etc from the Stillen one...
Ethan,
God bless you for trying to fabricate this together!
I would really love to see a kit that boosts differently then our traditional V1 and V2 high spool deals. I crave down low power, would that be possible? Anything close to a roots is what I want. Also, how would it sound? I REALLY don't want a quiet supercharger..if I've spend this much $ and am this much faster, I want people to know it!! Besides, nothing beats the sound of the whine of the SC, I would quiet down my duals for that even!

.
Sprintmax, it looks like I am going to use a centrifugal SC, probably a V1 or V2 Vortech unit (whipple is not gonna fit). And before I release anything I will put it threw a grewling test

one of the very few times I agree with you.
Ethan, wouldn't it be coo to have all that sh!tloads of power in the lower power band to scare the hell outta people w/o having to take it to dangerously high speeds? Let's take a hint from the GTP, lightning, Xterra, frontier, 03 Cobra, SC regal, ect. ....everyone knows roots is the best for butt dyno's and big block like power

I am interested Ethan. May I suggest a Powerdyne blower though? They have no oil lines (which is a definate plus).

Re: Re: Difference between SCs?
there aren't any other prototype or atypical SCs?
Comp ratio
What is the compression ratio of the VG motors? I know ours is 10.3:1...which is pretty high for a sueprcharger, but not too high. I'm thinking a maximum of 6-8 psi? I would be very interested in a supercharger kit.

I got quoted, from a custom shop, about 7G to develop a custom S/C kit for my 02' Max. I am not too concerned about cost, but 7G is just too much. If you would be able to develop a strong, reliable product - I would be willing to pay good money for it (at some point – want to make sure it is reliable). I think most of the people here, that are serious buyers, would put quality above cost.
Maybe if you want to hit a price point, make some of the stuff (that may not be necessary for function) optional. IE you can buy a base kit with everything you need to make it work for 2800 or you can buy an intercooler, fuel pump, FPR, gauges, etc kit for 4000. Just giving an example.
Good luck to you,
Brian

Wow, I got a lot more feedback then I expected today
thank you all for sharing your ideas with me. A good part of today I have been looking things over on my car and browsing through varuis SC's. After doing research today I have singled my SC choice down to the "whipple unit" one. The main reason is it is the only SC that will work for my application. The kit I am planning to make is going to be very simple yet very affective, I have figured out a way to make the install even easier today. If you can put a Y-pipe on you will probably be able to put this SC on. You guys are going to love what I have planned out "if" I get it to work

I am going to hold off on the details until I have one on my car and have the kit copyrighted. The kit will be easy to put on and much more tuner frinedly, the belt and pulley will be easy to remove. I also plan to offer several choices for fuel pumps.
Well if your intersted let me know, the better the responce is the quicker I am going to get the ball rolling on this.
Ohh and does EPTuning sound like a decent company name to you?

I think a lot of people are interested, but if it is not a lot cheaper than the stillen kit it you might have trouble selling it. Once a product holds a large market share it is difficult to sucessfully market a similar product even if it is better and cheaper.
But I would be interested if the price was better than Stillen and more reliable.

Craig how many times do I have to tell you that a Roots blower wont fit?? You would need a cowl type hood or a custom manifold made which would cost $$$$$. Many of the cars listed above such as the GTP, Lightening, and Cobra have a lot of tq because of the engine displacement.

Are their only 3 SC types? (roots/centri/screw) ? I think it would be cool if there was an "in between" that we could fit under our hood without any hood work.

You are right about the displacement, but we have great torque for our displacement, and you know our cars would be BEASTS around town with roots blowers.

The problem I see with a Roots type blower on our cars is wheelspin. With the increase of low end tq this would become a major problem. Also, I believe GTP owners have problems with S/C heat when they put smaller pullies on it.

too bad the stillen kit will put out more horsepower than the whipple at higher rpms and the raising of boost on the stillen kit will put out way more hp than the whipple.. its too bad you can't stick with a centrifugal blower
What about this style of mounting including the AFTERCOOLER?
Flipped to the DRIVERs' side of course:
1)It's a Vortech, so the install would be simpler with the "cross bar" setup ABOVE, because there is plenty of room on the DRIVERs' side of the engine bay NOT between the hood or manifold.
2)It's a Vortech, so we can use the Vortech SFMU.
3)It's a Vortech, so we can use the Vortech AFTERCOOLER(~$1K w/kit) and we don't need to worry about a custom intercooler/piping.
4)It's a Vortech, so it's a centrifugal type which can be intercooled/aftercooled EASILY for 8+psi applications compared to a roots/screw type.
5)It's a Vortech, so it's a simple pulley swap to produce more boost efficiently.
6)It's a Vortech, so it's the ONLY type that builds more power as the engine RPMs rise into the higher RPMs and the VQ is built for this especially with a MEVI manifold or -K engine.
7)It's a Vortech, so it builds power as the RPMs rise which is more streetable and easier for a heavy FWD car to handle.
8)The Maxima has PLENTY of torque off idle, especially with a manual trans..
There are many pluses/minuses for each type of SC, but IMO the centrifugal fits the Maxima PERFECTLY if your running 8+psi.
Good luck, which ever way you chose Ethan. Also, you may want to talk to Cattman, since he mentioned he's thinking/working on a SC kit to be prototyped by December, so maybe you could join forces AGAINST $tealin.

i didn't think that you were actually going to go through with your s/c idea! and to think... it all started from changing a belt on my car.
hey, since my car gave you the idea, you think i get get a cut in the pofits?
or maybe a discounted sc for myself! heh heh heh.
j/k, good luck with it though ethan. later
