Its time for me to leave the nest (well... get my own insurance other than my parents)..

i guess if you could post your coverage:

Age

Company
Bodily Injury $
Property Dam $
Uninsured coverage $
Comp $
Collision $
your YEARLY costs.

right now i'm getting quotes close to freakin $2400/yr. sucks.

I have a 1990 twin turbo 300zx.

I have Geico insurance.

My insurance is $330/mo. for 10 months.

If i get 3.5 gpa for one quarter i get a $300 discount for an entire year.

I am 17.

I have been in one accident in which two cars were totalled, the other guy has thousands dollars of medical bills, and i was speeding.

My insurance is now $30 for a 330hp car.

Geico is good.

I think someone is sleeping in algebra. I bet it's $300 a month, nothing to brag about.

I find it hard to believe you get a 90% discount on your insurance for good grades.

I can't really say for sure, I can only tell you my experience. I don't know if you're a homeowner but if you are, it pays to do both auto and home through the same co. The traditional agent will bad-mouth web and 800# and direct insurance cos. But I think they're a bunch of ^&%&(*^&*^(*)%. Why? Because when I moved to the ritzy part of town I decided to try to get a local insurance agent. Of the 5 I called, I received a quote from only 1. The other 4 took all the info down, even questioning me as to how many feet from a fire hydrant and how many square feet the home is, and none of those 4 even got back to me with a quote. I say they were too busy stealing from their current policyholders.

So to make a long story short, I got homeowners from AIG who blew away the other company by 30%. Granted I have NEVER made a claim with AIG, I have always been able to get a hold of someone 24/7. You never seem to be able to get a hold of these dudes who put CLU etc. after their name. Insurance agents are a thing of the past if you ask me. It's like being an expert in PC-DOS.

I have Farmers and I only pay $80 a month for the maxima. However, I am under my parents and as a part time driver, never had an accident, no tickets, no nothing.

you're out of your mind. maybe you got a $300/year discount, but definately not per month. trust me... i work for geico.

cheston, there's a difference between good prices and good service... depends what you want. if you're willing to pay a little extra than some other companies go with geico. honestly, not just because i work there, geico is an awesome company and i can say that to a fellow .orger or any family member or friend and feel completely confident that they'll be happy. at every instance geico will do right by you and quickly. i *would* have it myself but i can't even get it with them yet for any reasonable price(too young). i know you're young also but worth checking out.

Doesn't sound like you carry a 3.5 gpa if you believe you get a 300 dollars a month discount. There is no way in hell, unless they are idiots. Nothing personal, but if you do get it, you're one lucky guy and they are one bunch of idiots. I don't know if I'd want to be insured by a company like that.

Tell mtrai760 Geico is a good company. They screwed him pretty bad on the stuff stolen from his car.

With USAA, I had a hit and run while parked. They didn't want to see the car or even pictures, didn't care if I filed a police report, and sent a check within 48 hours.

Similar thing happened to my brother, who has Geico. he had to go to their pre-appointed body shops and get it inspected twice, and waited 3 weeks for the check after they tried to prove unsucessfuly that he did the damage himself, which he didn't.

I'm sure they're a good company, and at one time had thought i may go with them, because they are a little cheaper than USAA, but I'm not considering them now.

We have the same coverage for my Max and my wife's Honda and we pay $1750/yr for both vehicles with Travelers. GMAC also has very competitive rates (gmac123.com).

USAA is my families company, and they only accept applications from Military and/or the dependents of military officers.

I am the son of a Marine Corps Officer, thus I get the insurance.

Their whole premise is no questions asked, no trouble claims.

I don't think I'll ever go with anyone else, even if it saves me a few hundred a year. They've taken very good care of my family for 45 years. (And my family has gone through 10 teenagers and over 30 claims in the last 25 years!) Not once has there been a problem getting things worked out.

The only "problem" we've had is my older brother had a depth perception problem and got in 5 rear-end accidents in a year and got his license revoked. At that time, USAA refused to cover him for 5 years. After that 5 years was up and his record was clean, they actually wrote him to see if he was interested still. That's great record keeping!

And he went with Geico instead, regretted it, and is now back with USAA.

Man they rock. (And my brother hasn't been in any accidents since getting his vision corrected...heh)

I'm currently with Mercury insurance through AIS. I'm 25, single, male. 1998 Volvo C70 Coupe - don't remember exactly what the breakdown was but it wasn't the minimum, I think 100/50/50 or something like that, and I pay ~$2.1K/year right now. This is with one accident and three tickets.

The insurance company handled my accident with class and absolute professionalism and SPEED! After I reported it, I got a call from a rep the next day getting all the details about the accident. Everything that I said was sent to me in writing. Also, they gave me the option to send it to MY bodyshop and my rental car (for a month - a 2K2 Max YEAH!) was paid by them. No fuss, nothing.

You get a 15% discount for having an engineering degree.

USAA is a good insurance company, with very reasonable rates, but theres one set-back you must have a relative in the military or was in military to get it.
My brother-in-law was 23 years old when he got his own insurance, He pays $114.00 dollars a month and at the time this was his first car.
I think that's a pretty good rate for someone that was under 25 at the time.
I myself pay about $87.00 a month, so check them out!!

i'm not ignorant enough to believe that with millions of claims being filed a few don't get screwed up... if any company did everythign perfectly than they would put everyone else out of business.

i don't know mtrai's story on what got stolen from his car but to be honest, if it wasn't something that came with the car it isn't covered and few insurance companies will cover it (some exceptions are made of course). my boy had $25k invested in his solara not including the price of the car. he attended a show in nj, parked in a hotel parking lot and woke up to find the car stripped and burning in the lot. allstate gave him $15k for the car itself and that was it.

gmac blows really hard. i have them personally and as soon as possible i'm switching. after my car was keyed the adjuster who saw the car thought it was fraud and was giving me a hard time and then it took over 1 month to get the check. that's totally unacceptable. the way they work is just stupid.

I have GMAC insurance and am very happy with them. I did make a claim once and they were extremely helpful. I don't regret having them on bit.

I used to work for Geico a long time ago also, and I think that it is a good company... They offer a couple of discounts that can get your rates pretty low. And as to people having mods on your car and not getting paid for them... Insurance is for the car and what the car is worth. If your car is stolen, you should be paid what your car was worth, not what the mods are worth. Cuz if you pay X amount of dollars a month to insure a car that is worth lets say 10,000 how can you expect an insurance company to pay out 25,000 just cuz you have a stereo? Technically you should be paying more if you want them to payout more. If I remember correctly, at Geico you can ask them to raise the symbol of you car which basically increases the value of the car and the payout. From my point of view that sucks that he didnt get his moneys worth. Seriously, I feel bad for the guy. But from the insurance POV that is how they think.

Oh and also a word to the wise, we shouldn't really be disclosing our coverages because if someone knows where we live, and knows what the limit of our insurance is, (lets say 500,000) they could try to get into an accident w/you and try and sue for the amount of the limit, now that they know it.

update on my searches.

AAA so far has given me the best deal. $1245.00 for 12 monthes of coverage. Body 15k/30k; property 10k; no medical, uninsured $15k, with 500 comp and 500 collision. my gf also has AAA and their service was pretty decent.

i got $2450.00 for 12monthes from geico insurance, with basically the same details. and a whopping $3300 from Progressive. i did AIS but was unsure about some of their coverage, but they were really cheap, around $1200.00 for 12 monthes with all the same coverages.

thanks for your help. (except sprint)

Hey Cheston,
That sounds really very good. Try out AIG also, I checked everywhere and they were the cheapest by far! I know lots of people using AIG.

OT, did you ever use my KS how to for your site? You wanted me send you the pics in a word doc, but I couldn't get it to work right, so you can just rip the pics and use them how you want to...I give you permission! Now, where are my stickers???!!!

Call this guy for a quote. He would be more than happy to give you one. As I mentioned he has hooked up .org members, just tell him you know Donald with the Maxima.
