would you want to soup your car to the max?

If you could, would you put every conceivable mod on your Maxima? It got me thinking because this show-off dude who did that to his E36 BMW got a new S2000, and it really grabs attention. It's got a real wing on the back, big chromed out multi-spoke BBS I think 18's, custom exhaust, body kit, all kinds of decals, license plate that says blowbyya or something. I would think the thing could get chopped on Essington Ave. LoJack or no LoJack. Would you do that to your Maxima if you had the coyne?

I kinda like the cars that you can't tell are high perf from a distance, with subtle hints that something is there. Like a SC 4th gen with nothing more than 18's, know what I mean?

I got killed by a BMW 318Ti w/ m3 wheels and a body kit. He had dual exhausts but I thought it was a rice mod until I noticed the duals actually ran into dual cats ala stock M3 exhaust.

I got killed by a sleeper!

So yeah, sleeper cars are kinda cool in my book.

excessive vibrations and noise from the VTCs give competitors vehicles an advantage as they try and run as fast as they can from the VEs

To me the Maxima mod thing an effort to express individually which is fine, but the money expended to get really fast is not realistic and never recoverable. Start with an American V8 and you will be very fast for a lot less>

i would soup up my car, but not to the max. IMO, if you want a really fast car and willing to spend a lot of money *getting ready for the flames*, you should have gotten a better car than the max.

I agree.

If you want to spend a marginal amount of money, however, and freak people out while still having some luxury and space, then buy a Max.

I think NOT modding to the max is half the fun. If we all had enough money to go out and buy all the mods we wanted, it'd be no fun and all the maxes on this board would be the same. No, modding is about planning, hoping that we get a few extra bucks, waiting and installing and then thinking about what we can do next.

In the words of HST (and many others I'm sure), "If something's worth doing, it's worth doing right"

It's real hard for me to sell the idea of doing performance mods to a max, because if I started that on any car, I'd want to take it farther than an intake and exhaust. The only way I can ever convince myself of anything like that is if I need to replace some original eq - like my exhaust next year. If I had the coin though, I think I'd buy a normal day-driver, and some kind of domestic project car depending on the amount of coin avail. Lots of people come with the "I want to do something unique"...crap, if the car I'm driving will rip anywhere from 9 to 12 secs at the strip, as long as I have another daily driver, I don't care how un-unique it is (I can see getting bored after a few project cars and then going after something unique though...but some people just use the 'unique' line a little liberally ).

Hrmmm not to the max. But a Turbo project would definetly be a killer

SC is too slow for me

Max really isn't a true project car. I am just gonna save up for a real project car hopefully be getting on in late 2003 either that or an M3.

Re: would you want to soup your car to the max?

I'm working on that whole every conceivable mod thing. This winter, I'm planning on repainting the car again, doing some more custom body work, reworking a bunch of the interior again, and chroming out most of the engine.

For me, the car is a billboard for my company, so it has to grab as much attention as possible. That's why I'm repainting it candy blue instead of say black, chroming the engine, fiberglassing the interior, maybe custom fender flares, etc. Everyone who sees the car basically has to go "oh my god, I can't believe you can do that to a maxima" in a good way of course. Subtle doesn't work for advertising.

If I had the cash right now I would love going for the Turbo setup. Maybe after the car is fully paid off etc. I would love the power in a car I love so much that still has nice quality comfortable room and nice styling. I hope one day it might happen.

with turbo a turbo car it is much eaiser to make it faster all u have to do is switch this or that instead of all these bolts on.
DSMs are so easy to make fast for instance with a 1st gen gsx, tsi, gvr4 or laser. it comes doing mid 14's stock with a little bit of Free tuning u can almost take off a second. the only thing is they aren't reliable as you can see my cuzin Ant95se or now AntGVR4 his car is always broken down. for more dsm info check out my other cuzins site Broadwayperformance.com his is the shop car the 1995 GSX
