I have a 99 se-l auto which is basically stock except for like clears, tints and small stuff...I thought if anything Id start with a 5 spd swap then go from there? Let me know what you guys think woul dbe a cool idea. Thanks,

No we just have a project senior year of our intersts etc...good thing about it is we can do many things like a car etc then do something else simply need to present one thing at the end. I think I will just keep the auto tranny and work with that, I mean look at Jeff's car, very nice and auto ...hehe so time to start buying mods

NOS!!

Simple to do, explain, and write about.

And you can generate lots of dyno charts to show off too...

Or doing a VI project with dyno #'s as well....

Or you can follow my foot steps and do the 5-speed conversion....

The senior project that I had denied by my school was to modify the rear spoiler LED so that when you braked it flashed, and when you turned on the turn signals it would point the direction you are turning. Yes, this may be considered rice, but it would be functional and I am sure a lot of people would probably buy it off me if I were to get it done at a reasonable price. Anyway, I am looking for something more difficult right now, but if you want to take this idea you are more than welcome, although I don't know how well you do digital circuitry.

Does everything have to revolve around a car? lol

What about science? What about finance (Wall St. bubble and treasury yields at 41-year low, real estate bubble like dot.bombs)? What about girls? Surely life has other distractions?

Amen, I would suggest using your senior project as an opportunity to
learn about something other than your car. Take a chance here. If
you want to play it safe, why not organize a visitation to a senior
home or bring them pets from your local ASPCA/pound/etc.? You'd be
amazed at the pearls of wisdom some of those geezers can drop on you.
(just watch out for the colostomy bag - that's not the kind of dump
you're looking for here).
Develop a stock picking model and defend its virtues.
Get a foreign or US dignitary, celebrity or major athlete to visit your class and lecture on a topic.
Work a political campaign.
Build a house with Habitat for Humanity.
Write a story.
Put together a business plan for a money-making venture and try to turn a profit before the end of the year. (2 friends and I cleared over $1000 selling hats).
Write a computer program to do something funny or useful.
Organize a charity event; golf tourney, bowling night, softball tourney or whatever.
Develop an episode of some show for your local public access cable channel (a la Wayne's World).
Coach a junior sports team like Pop Warner or Little League.
Develop a better mousetrap (literally)
Start a for-fee tutoring service in your school for some subject you're good at. Get others to tutor as well and you'll see the $$
start rolling in.

College and/or workforce recruiters will be far more impressed with some beneficial endeavor than with a souped up Maxima. You'll get to learn and grow from it and give something back in the process. I guess I'm saying do anything but just work on your car. There's a
whole lifetime of modding in front of you.

I think a great project would be the analysis of the combined effect of a variable intake manifold, JWT cams and a 7,000 rpm redline. This project would encompass numerous subjects and would be a great benefit to many others.

Economics: supply vs demand, exchange rates, international business.

Finance: ROI, ROH (return on horsepower), intrinsic value, capitol investment(s), capital procurment and budget forecasting.

Science/Math: Intake resonance, degrees of rotation, torque, dyno analysis.

Philosophy: "I mod therefore I am" or "If a civic goes fast and nobody sees it, did it happen?". You could probably demonstrate nihilism by posting your results on the org.

History: Illustrate the performance history of the maxima starting with the first intake and finishing with the VIM/cams/ecu.

As you can see this would be well-rounded project worthing of an A++.

Speed trip that is an awesome idea dude...I think i will do that, the good thing about this project is that it can be based around many things. Like I can start off with my car and incorporating philosophy and what not into it as well. Then I can move onto a different project like opening my business as well and present that. So in other words I would be moding my car, get credit for it then do another project and get credit for that as well. And no sprint his tranny problems didnt start until he started going to college, now he has probs with the new tranny...no 2nd gear...but as you saw hes buying a new 2k2 and going to work with that. I e-mailed a local guy today selling a used 5 spd tranny so I think I would like to incorporate that into my project a lot as well. I think the variable intake manifold, jwt cams etc would be great as well because I could go into what is cost effective, what isnt etc. I think I could also go into the world of street racing, do some movies etc, I know the scene her in CT isnt that great but hey with sprint etc Im sure we could make some good movies. If not time to hit up cali or phily while Im on break from school. Thanks again guys for all your help and if anyone has any other suggestions then I would really appreciate it.

Re: Need advice for a senior project

research the effects on differnt types of turbines in turbo/super-charged applications and how turbine angle affects air mass flow.

Now you're on the right track. Money makes the world go around.
Those who find a way to get more of it than they give while doing something they enjoy have it made. Why not challenge yourself to make enough money from either of the above ventures to cover all of the mods that you want to do. Then your project can be, "How to modify your Maxima with other people's money instead of with your own." Free mods should make you;
