To All Maxima Drivers!

Dude, I have a couple of friends that drive Hondas. They always dog Nissan. One guy is always bragging about how fast the s2000 is against a 350z and that it is over priced. And just now he calls me up and dogs on my car. Saying that the Honda accord has TV navigation leather and all that good stuff with vtec, v6, 5 speed autos runs a 15.5. And that just left me speech less. So I need help I don’t know much about the 350z or the new maxima. Don’t get me wrong Honda are good cars, I give them props on fuel efficient. But what do they have when if comes to flagship cars man? “3.5 TL vs. Q45 “man.

2002 automatic Maximas run anywhere from mid 14s to low 15s. They have navigation, heated seats and steering wheel (I think), leather, 8-way power seats, HLSD option on 6spd manual, look better, and on top of all have a VQ.

BTW..
3.5RL = $40k V6.
Q45 = $60k+ V8.

There is no comparison in luxury, performance, or price. But then again Honda makes an NSX and we have nothing to match with that in our country.

Arrg! Enough with those silly calstrated V-tec engines with no torque! VTECs are the most overated engine on the planet, and yes the VQ is a moch better engine than the F-series v6 VTEC honda engines......*end rant*
Just about the facts,

the new v6 accord runs 15.5's?? thats not that impressive. Bring up the 2002 Civic SI and the 2002 Sentra SE-R since you want a Nissan/Honda fight.
Sentra SE-R: 6 Speed, 175 hp, 0-60 in 7.5, 2.5 liter, not great looking from the back
Civic SI: 5 Speed, 160 hp, 0-60 in 7.9, 2.0 liter, ugly all around

He has no right comparing the Accord to a Maxima. Tell him to compare his accord to an Altima. If he still wants to compare Maximas and Accords. That 15.5 sucks for a car with that power if thats the time. Even 4speed Auto Maximas are in the high 14s Stock. Also, the next gen Maxima will have more horsepower. 350Z isn't overpriced, it's kind of underpriced. It is faster than the S2000 stock and I am sure this car will have a higher aftermarket than the s2000. The only thing Honda has better is the Odyssey..but who cares? Someone correct me if I am wrong.

As far as the V6 engines go, i wouldn't say the Honda VTEC engines have no torque at all. Even the 3.2L V6 on the CL/TL has at least 230 lb/ft of that.

Maybe hardly any torque on their I4's, but on the V's it's definitely there.

The VQ is out engine series. For example the '95-'01 Maximas all have VQ30DE engines. However the new '02 Maxima has the VQ35DE (which produces 255hp). VTec is a completely different thing, and our closest version is a modification called a MEVI. I would not call Hondas slow. I would call them "more economical" cars. However with a few modifications that can easily be changed and you will have a Honda 4-banger that is faster than any Maxima out there. Hondas are very good cars, we have no reason to hate on them just because we own Nissans. Our specific competition is the Accord, and against that most of us would choose the Maxima (as we did). Civics and Acuras are in a different game completely. And Personally I like the Acura RLs, Tls, and CLs very much.

Cyrus, wouldn't the 2k2's CVTC fall under this category as well?

I think the S2000 is pretty nice but I'd hate to pay that much coyne and get shrimpy 16" rims. Plus what car can be that serious if it doesn't have 18 or 19's on the options list? The start button is cool, though.

What does wheel size have to do with anything? FYI the larger the rim, the more mass there is to move, thus degrading performance. The only reason you see really large wheels on touring cars and other road race cars is because they need them to fit over their huge brakes. On most cars, they are there to look cool, nothing else.

Also, MEVI and VTEC share nothing in common besides a V and an E in their names. MEVI is an intake manifold design, VTEC is a variable camshaft configuration.

Oh yeah, and to whoever said it, VTEC is not an engine, its what I stated above.

i don't think the 350z is overpriced compared to s2k. sure it may not be as nimble, but it has power to match and beat an s2k. i'm sure with a bit more tuning the z will be just as good as any s2k with tuning, if not more. besides, you won't get nearly as much noise as in an s2k. refinement with sport = the best

They come with 17" rims, with high performance Bridgestones wrapped around them. The S2000 is quick, just not off the line.

I haven't looked at any other magazines that tested the 350Z besides Car & Driver, but the S2000 is just as fast to 0-60 as the 350Z. Both do it around 5.2-5.5 range. It takes more skill to launch the S2000 though, because of Honda's "no torque rule " If your not a skilled driver in the S2000 then you will see more 5.8-6.2 0-60s.

The S does the 1/4 Mile in 14.0. The 350Z does it in 14.1 (from Car & Driver). I'm sure Motor Trend, SCC, or Road & Track has gone faster or something. If so please post their times I would like to see them. I think the 350Z can go down the strip in the 13.8-14.1 range, but I don't know.

Just my .02

Edit: MaximaZero your definetly right S2000s are still going for $40K. My older brother has a lease on his and he would buy it out if it wasn't $40K.

I'm not flaming anyone just showing facts

Sport Compact Car (September's Issue) got the 350 Z stock to 14.0 in the 1/4. Even better news, they put aftermarket tires on it and got 13.9

UH, the Z? It's only been off the market for a few years. They don't have an s2000 equivalent is all. What I like about Nissan is the fact that most of their cars are different in form and function; with Acuras it's like oh let's see TL RL CL what's the difference? Not much. They are all about the same size, all FWD, and all of them have pretty much the same options.

plus you don't have to launch the Z at 8000 RPM and you have so much more around-town midrange torque it's ridiculous. S2000 is the closest thing to a motorcycle on four wheels. super high-reving, low-torque, clutch-dumping tiny cars... i'd take a Z or a maxima over an S2000 any day.

man that's such flamebait...
