Smoked by an Odyssey

Watch out for these bad boys, 2002 or newer Honda Odysseys.
If you don't show some respect, you will be seeing their asses.
I did some research and found they have 240hp and 242lb/ft, able to do 0-60 in 7.6 sec. and the 1/4 in 15.8 sec.
All you stock auto Max be afraid and be on guard if you have stock stick.

A minivan putting up numbers that can beat just about every 60's musclecar. . .THESE are the good ol' days.

A decent performer it is, especially for a minivan, but a Maxima beater it is NOT. If your Maxima can't break 7.6 and 15.8, something's wrong with it.

They're selling for over list price, so it's alot different than a Max where you get it for 4-5 grand under list--probably costs 9 grand or more than a Nissan. So unless you really need a minivan I wouldn't bother. There are plenty of cars that smoke the Maxima and cost alot less than an Odyssey.

Since I bought a 2002 Honda Odyssey, naturally after it was broken in I did a stop watch comparison with my '96 Maxima SE automatic (with no engine mods).

To my surprise, up to around 60 mph, they run pretty close. But from there, the Maxima will progressively pull away. The Odyssey is too much of an aerodynamic brick. I used the same stretch of level blacktop on the same afternoon with clam weather and several runs in each vehicle after checking the speedometers for error.

It will blow any other stock mini-van on the market in the weeds though.

The problem is when you are line up with the Odyssey on the street, you don't take them too seriously and not give it all you got. If you let up, you are going to get smoked.
Or you will look kind of stupid going all out and the van just sits there. Most of the time Odyssey drivers do not race. If they do your are surprised. Ultimate sleeper.

Just EX-L. No NAV or RES. just heated leather.
I wish my Starlite Silver was better then my Maxima's paint, but it chips just as easily. I've got about 7,000 on the Ody and two stone chips already. It doesn't seem to be any more durable then the Maxima's.
BTW. Do you post on the odyclub.com forums? I go by "Aardvaark" over there.

I agree that at street speeds, it's easy for an unsuspecting Odyssey to pull one out. The party will really be over once 240hp accords start hitting the streets...

It's a great minivan. Picked mine up 2 weeks ago (EX-L) and I can already feel the get-up-and-go attitude (200 miles to break-in, can't wait). I've already surprised some of the smaller cars (sentras, civics, etc.) who obviously thought that they could take a minivan without trying. After break-in I'll tackle some of the bigger boys (accords, camrys, etc.).

Nice vehicle though. The wife and kids love it. Upside is, now I can do what I want with the max.

Not sure about the Odyssey, but we just bought a loaded 2002 Sienna xle. It's quick but my 2000 Max auto SE feels faster (not to mention handling around curves). The van is great for family trips and more fun to drive than I anticipated. But the Max is still much more fun to drive.

did u test drive a 2k2 odyssey? I drove a seinna before, around town it feels the same, when pedal goes down the ody will just completely walk it (2k2). & the sienna's supension is a little too soft... but the ride is awsome!

Thanks. Just signed up on odyclub. I would never have ventured to think that the odyssey would have an enthusiast's forum. So, looks like I have to share the mod money with the wife. CAI for the Odyssey, here we come!

I raced one yesterday.

Hey guys, I was on the ramp accessing the highway and this guy sticking in my a$$, as soon as I can I punch it a little to see what the guy wanted to do, on the highway he jump from the first right lane to the 3 rd lane on the left, cutting a few cars, I manage to jump safely on the second lane and then it was the pedal to the metal, I was like 3 cars in font of him when I moved to the left lane, he was a bit pi$$ed off and was throwing hi beam thinking I would let him pass, he many times tried to pass me by the right lane but everytime he get caught behind slower cars, he was driving like mad, finally when it cleared up and there was no car in front I punched it, at that point I was over 10 - 15 cars in front of him. I think an auto max with no mods would have been walked on the low end under 60-70 he could followed my easily and it is only after that speed that I could leave him in the dust, thanks to my Y-Pipe and other mods otherwise I dont think I would have been able to walk him.

Just my 2 cents.

Cheers

hey AA, did you race a 99-01 odyssey or a 2k2?(99-01 = all red tail) (02/03 = red & amber tail ... ugly) the 99-01 are DOGS even with 210hp(I can pull a couple cars on that on the highway easily), dad had one & i drove that old one a lot, that thing is so slow, power kicks in @ 4500rpm & completely dies @ 5400rpm talk about narrow powerband & the super tall gearing didn't help

I raced a pilot 60-100mph, only got half a car on it, but the guy punched it first.

edit : 02 tails http://www.pbase.com/image/3129300
99-01 tails are all red.

Who tested a 2k2 Oddy at high-15's?

Yeah they're fast, but they're not *that* fast

6spds DO run low-14's, and they have the timeslips at actual tracks to back it up. Has any 2k2 Ody owner actually gone to a track?

Edmunds.com got a 16.2 @ 82 mph. That isn't a 15.xx ET. Plus the trap is VERY low indicating that acceleration has fallen off considerably at higher speeds. When Accord V6's run 16.2's they're usually at about 87 mph.

A G-Tech is also not an accurate 1/4 mile timer. It seems to do pretty well for short 0-60 runs, but there's just too much "noise" for it to give an accurate 1/4 mile ET/Speed. Do you know what my G-Tech said my Accord V6 did when it was stock? 15.4 @ 92 mph, and that's with my 270lb self driving

The only place G-tech's seem to be accurate as far as 1/4 mile times are concerned is when you run them at an actual 1/4 mile track which is guaranteed to be as straight and as smooth as you can get. Little things like bumps in the roads, and even your rear suspension planting itself when you floor it will throw a G-Tech way off very easily.

You can't claim that Ody's are 15 sec cars just based off of a G-tech, which can very easily exaggerate your time. Go to a track and get a timeslip. Then you have something concrete to backup your argument
