If you want to loose 200 plus lbs in a hurry , remove the two center seats, they just lift out after undoing the latches, and the rear folding seat. It comes out pretty easy too, but you will need a 13mm hex (Allen) wrench to take the hinges out too.
Also, turn off the traction control for best launches.

The front folding tray weights over 9 lbs if your really serious. Three bolts removes it.

This thread is really scaring me...If i didn't read this, I would've always underestimated the power of a MiniVan. I just hope some soccermoms don't mess with me because I will end up crying if I lose.

Believe it or not, I'm pretty darn sure that my CarTest2000 software has a 2002 Odyessy model in it. When I get home I'm gonna fire that up and see what it runs stock and then with the "weight reduction" you mentioned. hehe

I'll post up the results here when I'm done. If it runs a 16.2 stock, I bet you could get it into the high-15's for sure if the benches really do weigh that much

This thread is a hoot. My neighbor drives an Odyssey. She is early 30's, cute with kids. Somehow I don't see her drag racing with her 240 hp. Maybe there's something I don't know about, but I'm pretty resolved to never drive a minivan. Some of my friends said the same thing and look at them now!

But if I did drive a minivan, it certainly wouldn't be a Nissan. It'd be a Honda with some HP.

hey AA, did you race a 99-01 odyssey or a 2k2?(99-01 = all red tail) (02/03 = red & amber tail ... ugly) the 99-01 are DOGS even with 210hp(I can pull a couple cars on that on the highway easily), dad had one & i drove that old one a lot, that thing is so slow, power kicks in @ 4500rpm & completely dies @ 5400rpm talk about narrow powerband & the super tall gearing didn't help

I raced a pilot 60-100mph, only got half a car on it, but the guy punched it first.

Dont know the color of the tails, I was in front of him all the time, but he jumped the 2 lanes kinda fast and hang with me pretty well until 140KM, surprisingly fast for a SUV.

Cheers

AA

The Sienna is my wife's everyday care and she test drove a friend's 2002 Odyssey first. She preferred the Sienna's ride and brakes. It was also more bang for the buck from my point of view. I refuse to pay $1500 above MSRP which is what the Honda here goes for. The Toyota was over $4000 below MSRP. The ody doesn't have a sunroof option which was important to my wife. They are both nice, the ody is rated to have higher horsepower. I prefer the Maxima when I am driving alone, of course!

yeah maxima all the way. If odyssey is $1500 over msrp here in Canada I doubt my dad would have brought it, we got it for $2000 below msrp!

your wife perfered the sienna's ride?? the ody ride is already like 24929492x smoother than the maxima's

If you need them:
From the 2002 Ody FSM. 5spd trans ratios and final drive:
Final drive: 4.200
1st: 2.563
2nd: 1.552
3rd: 1.021
4th: 0.727
5th: 0.520
reverse: 1.846

I'd go with 4176 lbs with seats removed for the EX-L, (and 4100 lbs with seats removed for the LX). 4376lbs.-200lbs=4176lbs.
I weighed them. 58lbs each for center seats and 85 lbs for the rear seat with all including head rests.

That's hilarious, being scared of an Odyssey. All he/she was doing was putting their foot down to the floor. Do the same on your max and they'd be in the dust.

Also an important thing to remember is that the Honda Odyssey is well over 4,000 lbs. So the engines performance has to be inpressive- especially for a minivan. Good to know performance on cars is getting better. I had a 91 Accord, as well as two 86 Accords, as well as many other imports and the Accords was rather slow. Good to know that even the vans are getting better. I think that Nissan should start making THEIR OWN van, rather than a Nissan-Ford venture.

Shoot, I'd want one as my next car. They're huge, pracitcal and can be modded like a **** like they do in japan. They treat them like ricers treat civics.

Odyssey eh?

Umm...I got smoked by a Chevy Venture the other day ... Of course in the car i had 4 other people (3 of them 200+lb big boys). That thing just pulled me all the way to around 90-100mph on the freeway. The lanes merged and there was no way i was getting in front of it.
