Go with Apexi WS or keep my Courtesy B/5th gen?

I'm having a tough time deciding which to go/stay with. Currently, I have a generic POP air filter, Stillen Y-pipe, Courtesy B-pipe, and 5th gen muffler on my 97 Maxima. According to Bejay1's dyno, the 5th gen muffler sure showed gains:

This pleases my eyes. However, I've always eyed the Apexi World Sport cat-back and I've also stumbled upon a deal at $350 shipped brand new. I've never seen a dyno with the World Sport so I don't know if I'm better off with what I have or not. I have a good feeling the WS is better on the top end, but I'm a little more concerned with the low and mid range.

One thing for sure, I'm definitely going to swap my intake for the mid-pipe plus the Apexi Power Intake. It's just been dyno proven to gain 4HP over the K&N by another Maxima.org member. Any suggestions on the

you know, thats the exact same thing I'm contemplating right now!! I have a stock catback now, but I know I will need a catback sooner or later for additional power.

I'm torn between the Apexi WS and Stillen B/2k muffler....

Maybe if you sell me your setup at good price, you can have the WS and I can have the bpipe/2k muffler combo !

Hey Kevin,

I recently hacked off my apexi ws muffler for a 2k i30 muffler. It is definitely more quiet but I can say for certain that I lost some top end power in exchange for less noise. Oh yeah, low-end power is better now obviously. I don't know if I should have done it though...

i dunno about 5th gens but the 4th gen courtesy bpipe had a huge crimp in right near the bend to go around the fuel bump underneath. that totally ganked the entire point of the "free-flow" catback.

BUT.
your WS is chambered. which is also not free flow.

decisions decisions..

got with the EVO greddy exhaust!

Oh really.. thanks for the heads up. Well, even the stock 4th gen mufflers are not THAT RESTRICTIVE, so a chambered WS muffler should be pretty ok, IMO. OMG, I can't believe I'm gonna spend another $400 on exhaust !! But you know, all I'm looking for is that 2 car lead on 4am highway races, and I believe UDP, RT cat, and Apexi WS(or any other catback) will get me there.

Mid-range, low-range is BS. Exhaust should give you power across the board. Keep your Courtesy B-pipe for it is 2.5". The Apexi is only 2.25" B-pipe with 2.5" muffler. Since you are not boosted, your existing setup will actually give you more power than the Apexi.

If you EVER plan on going boosted, get the Greddy cat-back. 2.5" all the way !!

Anyone know if this deal is still good? Is the Apexi WS the quietest performance set up for the 4th Gen Max?

I enjoyed my WS up until the point that it started resonating really bad. I had it for about a year and I believe the 100 shot was to blame for the damage to the muffler. Anyways I put the stock muffler back on and well its just nice to be quiet again. When I go to the track I take off the muffler completely.

You need to CALL.
No one posts their lowest prices on the Internet. I've seen Apexi go for as low as $350 shipped. Search old posts in "Classifieds" forum.

I did call. I have seen much lower prices in the past as well. Apexi just raised their retail prices on Oct 1st. Retail went from $499 to $525.
I only spent this brief time looking. I am sure if I wait better deal will come along.

Well, I think I'll hold on to my muffler, but I'll be selling the Courtesy pipe in a week or so. It's still on the car, but I just haven't had the time to swap yet.

As for the price increase for the Apexi, I hope it's not because of the port lock out. Apexi products are disappearing from the shelves and there isn't a warehouse out there that can replenish the supply.
