Chaulk another one up for the Maxima's!

This is kind of funny..

Last night after a concert I get a call from a friend who just bought a new Civic with a 'turbo'.. So I stop and check it out. Its got 18's and one of those huge steel lookin spoilers, it is kind of a nice car Anyway, he shows me the exhaust, and it was this gigantic chrome canister that made it sound like a semi truck.. I just wanted to see the 'turbo'.. He pops the hood and right away taps on the Air Filter box and says 'there it is' all happy and proud of himself.. What a joke right? To make a long story short, he got me off the line but not even through first I passed him and made it worse after that.. It was the Civic EX if anyone cares..

Reminds me when my friend first saw an intercooler on a car and he thought that it was a radiator. Well I got $10 bucks richer and now he knows what it is.

Kind of off the topic here, but I'm thinking I really need to do something to get me off the line alot quicker (besides drop a manul trany in it).. I was thinkin just cut my muffler off that is on there right now.. Is there really that much resistence in there? If thats gone, all there will be is that CAT all the way to the engine right? Good idea? Bad Idea? I'm even tossin around the idea of making it duel exhaust!!!

I agree beating a civic with just bolt-ons is wasting bandwidth, but the turbo coment was kinda fuuny. How would anyone call an airbox a turbo? I have never run across this rationalization so I am curious.

Well, you really owe him $10.

An intercooler is a radiator.

The difference is that the heat exchanger that almost every liquid cooled engine has, and is called the radiator, is used to cool the engine.

The intercooler uses the same principles (but not always using liquid to absorb the heat) to cool the air going into the engine (usually in conjuction with a turbo charger.)

And your air conditioner evaporator is a radiator, and so is the condensor.

That is truly pathetic man. Sorry if this seems harse, but, even if you are automatic, you should have raped him off the line. Their 1.8L's put out, what, 50lb-ft of torque? Civic EX's do 0-60 in around 9-10 seconds.

..Are you sure you weren't running without your spark plugs?

Well if you spun a good amount and he is 5spd and dropped the clutch at 6,000 rpm's i'd understand a little more. But still, unexceptable. I forgive you though

You need to reseach your Civics more. A 5spd '00 EX runs about the same times as an auto Maxima. Si is slightly faster than that. Although most Civics are jokes, there are still many you can't blow off. Remember there are many more Civics running 12s than Maximas, and there are Civics running 11s and 10s.

A civic EX won't do 0-60 in 7.4.....and I don't consider something that uses a whole differnet engine, tranny, ect. to be a civic. A car that uses it's original engine is the only car that gets credited for that time IMHO. No civic could come close to those #'s with their stock engine.

civic ex's 5spd with all the regular bolt ons would get demolished by a bone stock 4th gen, autos are a little closer but same results.

No way, an auto Maxima should be faster than a 5spd '00 Civic EX. The SI is about even with an auto Maxima, maybe edge out the auto Maxima if the SI driver know what he's doing.
