i put a lot towards my max for down payment and initial payments and as grad gift a year ago they're paying the rest. if they ask me for money towards payments i give it to them, but other than that working my *** off goes towards my mods. i tried selling stuff on ebay for a while to make extra cash but ran out of things to sell.

Congrats man! Paying off a car is not a small deal. I bought my car and financed it for a bit, thought 5.9% was good back then. Didn't pay it off until I was 25. You are in a very good position paying off your 99 at age 17.

There's no if/ands/buts about it, the only way to pay for mods is to earn the coyne. There is another way though, to have it handed to you by your rents, but I dunno, if your folks have the green they should be putting it towards other stuff.

You sound earnest in your question, so my advice to you is to discipline yourself as far as your check goes. If you want some of it to go to mods, so be it. You decide what would be reasonable. If you feel the job doesn't pay enough for what you want, then hold-off on spending and get yourself a better job. Making money quick is risky--it's like anything else, it doesn't last. Ask anybody what they think about the shys on Wall St these past few years!

Mods:

I worked 2 summer which came up to about $8000 (yes I worked my **** off both summers). $5000 paid for the car since I bought it off my parents. $3000 went into mods. That's about where I stand. I won't even blow the money I recieve as presents, I think they should be used for more important things. The only reason I work is for the Maxima, but that's where all the money comes from. Not working anymore = no more mods. Oh well, there are more important things for me to do now as a senior.

been mowing yards for the last fours. I finally got a job this summer also and worked about 20 hours a week. I paid for my car and everything that has gone on it. I've only got a couple more mods to do and I should be done completely. My plan is to drive this until it dies on me, or when I have a secure job that will allow me to buy a newer car.

I wouldn't advise spending all your money on mods. Its quite easy to go through a couple thousand on mods over the course of the year. I totalled everything out the other day, and I've paid about 1500, but only because I've gotten great deals. Retail prices on all add ons is over 3k easy.

Advice: shop smart

im 17 and pay 220 a month for my car payment, but since i get good grades my parents pay for insurance. i work part time and make like 600 a month. so the left over 400 a month goes to maxi and the girlfriend. also if you are still young like me you must use b-day and christmas to your advantage. i.e i got a CAI and cosmetic stuff from mom and dad for b-day, and a y-pipe from g/f for our 2 year anniversary

buy an intake, then take people for rides... make sure they have change in their pockets... from stops accelerate hard, all that change is yours

or race people for money, and then bet against yourself and then throw the race.... you are driving a maxima, shouldnt be that hard

Yeah, right, Jason.

What I want to know is how the "older max drivers" afford mods...what with mortgage payment, homeowners insurance, utility bills, auto insurance, food, etc. And if you have children You youngsters have it easy.

Re: All you young max owners..

find a good job. that's the most straightforward way. i worked for three years to make enough to put a great downpayment on my max when i turned 16 and got a license (incidentally the one year anniversary was yesterday). Since then, I work 30-35 hours a week during school and about 60-70 hours during break or the summer. everything on, in or around the car is paid for with my money and my dad is cool with mods, so it works out.

work hard and get what you want. I've had my max for about a year and so far I have a Cattman SS Y-pipe, Levoc Shift **** (just installed yesterday), FSTB, RSB, 16" 2001 GLE rims with dunlop A2's (on the way), Frankencar intake (on the way), Clarion HU and Infinity Reference 6.5" all around with a Pioneer amp for the fronts (should be getting them today).

if you can, find a small business and get paid cash. I can work overtime any time I want, so I usually have some money to spend on the Max.
