Amazing maxima facts? need food for thought

a friend of mine brought it to my attenion the other day at a preview drive of the 350z that nissan only made the rosewood color for the 97 model year. i thought that was kinda intresting. i never realized that all the other rosewoods i ran into were 97s .

the 350z comes in a "brickyard" color which is very close to the orginial rosewood. thats how we got to talking about it.

another fact is that nissan limited the production of gxe 2k2 maxes to only 5%. so if you have a 2k2 gxe its about as close as we are gonna get to a collectors edition max.

also i didnt know that the maxima orginialy started out as a trim level, hmmm hence the name.

I had an '87 that used to talk to me. It was annoying. When I was stationed in England, I used to have to get out of the car to check my tires for rocks and stuff before driving onto the flightline every morning. When I did my tire checks, I would leave the door open as I walked around the car with the car telling me that the door was ajar the whole time and people looking at my car like it was from another planet.

I test drove a 98 which I thought was rosewood, or at least it looked that way. I notice that Nissan changes the names but I think the colors might be the same. As far as I know Concord Mist may have been made only in 97, but as I previously posted, after the teletubbies' purple purse scandal I'm so relieved I didn't get it!!!

even if its a collection item i wouldnt want a 2k2 GXE. Maxima was this highest trim level on the Datsun 810, that car feature a 2.5 inline 6 , RWD I belive? Rosewood is alright but its no Ruby Pearl

I purchased my 97 SE in the Rosewood color because I thought was an odd color for a Maxima. And the funny thing was when I was looking to buy a Maxima, I look at all the colors and notice that there where many popular colors out there, so I came across the Rosewood Max and it was the only color that the dealership had one of every other color they had in bulk. So I got just base on that....

I had an '87 SE Max and I got a kick out of the "woman's voice" saying stuff like:

"lights are on"
"fuel level is low"
"right door is open"

What difference does it make what colors are offered which year... don't most all Maximas have to be repainted eventually anyways?

I'm not so sure that figure is correct, because when I was shopping for a new Max in early 98 there seemed to be around 4-5 sticks for every 20 cars total (I didn't know of the mega dealerships who had 60+ cars in stock or else I would have had 15 5-spds to choose from instead of 4).

Anyway, I think a cool Maxima fact is that one can lower the front windows using the remote controllers. I can't tell you how many people even now will ask, "Didn't you lock the car?" when I put the windows down as we're going back to the Max.

Rosewood available in '98

I have a Rosewood '98, verified by the W date code in my VIN (see here, thanks bert) and by my LS5 paint code (see here.)

Rare, yes. Available only in 1997, no.

TOM

Ha, that would be great! Actually I think the options on my car do make it pretty unusual. 5-speed tranny, factory alarm (worthless), no ABS, beige cloth interior, only one power seat & no Bose. Wonder how many Maximas were produced with that oddball group of options.

Too bad rare doesn't automatically mean expensive. Cadillac Cimmarons are rare too, there's a whole untapped market!

Cheers,
TOM
