Why do nissans have the Mass Air flow?

It rugulates air or something right? Why dont hondas have this?

It seems like it would srestrict alot of air going in the intake mani.

Just curious.

Anyone ever drive without one?Or try and trick the ECU?Damange?

Thanks

1985 Volvos have them, 1979 do not. Depends on the fuel injection system. The former are Bosch LH Jetronic and the latter were....hmmmm, can't remember, used to know that stuff cold!

Hondas I believe may have also gone the way of MBenz in using SOHC not DOHC nowadays.

I've heard that you get more power from your intake if you remove the filter.

Nissan - Mass Air Flow Sensor

Honda - Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor

Both serve more or less the same function.

This is why when you boost some Honda's you need a check valve to prevent it from sensing boost which will set off a CEL. A MAFS should just register more flow.

BTW, it measure's airflow so it know's how much fuel the engine needs (and some other stuff). It doesn't restrict airflow.
