question about towing laws...

so my car got towed last night. its my fault. so its cool. but i was wondering if the tow company is responsible for damages they do to the car while towing it? i would assume that each state has their own laws but i was looking for some general information. anyone have any input?

the one thing i am worried about is if they scratched one of my rims in the process. i dont have my car back yet so i dont know if anything happened but i just wanted to ask.

not sure about VA...but I know in DC, they have no responsibilities for damages caused during the tow, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that most states follow the same rule.

It depends who tows it and the circumstances. For example I got towed out of a ditch.. not responsible for any damage to my car.. it was difficult to get to. My insurance company told me this

But I would think if your car needed a tow and it was easily accesible it would be covered. I am GUESSING here. BUt it would stand to reason.

But we are talking about TOW companies who are not known for thier great customer relations

I'm pretty sure if you were illegally parked or something that they have no responsibility for it and you're screwed.

I don't think the tow company has any responsibility. My girlfriend's brother got his car towed and impounded. At the impound yard (he assumes), they stole his rims (and put on steel wheels ) and took stuff from the inside of his car (rearview mirror, shift ****, stereo face plate, air freshener). When he came to get it the next day and complained, they told him it was too bad. He tried to go after the tow company and they also denied liability. Luckily insurance paid for some of the stuff under comprehensive coverage.
