Can anyone here hang with a 2K2 M3?

My cousin was coming over to pick up some stuff from my house. He tells me that on the way to my house a 2k2 Maxima tried to race him (my cousin has a 2k2 M3). He says he could hear the engine hitting the higher rpm's so he knows the max is trying. Anyway, he lets the Max catch up then guns it; did this about the three times. Basically the Max doesn't even stand a chance. Funny thing is that the Max is still at it all this time. My cousin was like, what's the point? The worst part is my cousin said that the Maxima still had dealer plates. I'm like WTF? Doesn't this guy break in his car?

maybe he is just retarded or stupid and didn't realize it was an M 3 and that his $25k 255hp maxima can't compete against a $55k 333hp M3.

Given the opportunity to race a new M3 I would I know I would loose but it would not be that that bad. They trap only 3-4 MPH higher then me. Of course I would get killed off the line

Tell your cousin that maxima engines are stronger and better built than the E46 M3 engines and that our motors don't need no stinkin' break-in. When he denies this tell him to point his browser here .

There are alot of cars on this board that would smoke an E46 M3 in straight line acceleration.

E46 M3s are no doubt awesome cars, but you have to expect that kind of trouble when pumping out that many hp/liter NA no matter what car, especially when it's a BMW.

They are fast. I think my C5 can beat one but my Maxima can't even dream of it. They are ~low 13 quarter cars stock when they are not in the shop.

Just trying would put a tremendous strain on the car, what would be the sense? It's like thinking I'm in good shape, as strong as John LeClair, so why don't I have a shootout one-on-one with Simon Gagne? he's a pro, I'm an amateur, I'd get kicked and strain myself trying. Even if you drove as fast as an M3, while his car is hugging the road the max would be beyond its limits, and that's not a good thing.

Of all the people who bash M3's, I wonder why that is. That's like when girls hate another girl for being beautiful and getting all the guys. Makes no sense.

Your going to need a 100 shot of Nitrous or some major boost to beat an E46 M3. My friend ran a 13.3 at his first time at the track. A few guys on this board are capable of beating one in a straight line. No Maxima on this board will hang with one at a road course.

My car hangs with one almost everyday. Infact sometimes I can even beat it.... out of the parking lot.

I park next to it all day long 3 days a week.

Your C5 is fast, but it would get smoked badly by a Z06 or Cobra. Unless you have head/cams your C5 isnt anything special.

Watch out for the M3, its a pretty quick car, and its built very well (but again, its 2x the $$$ a Maxima is, it should be 2x's as good)

Looks like the fastest Maxima around is still in the hands of someone who can handle it!

I highly doubt it was a M5. It was most likely a 540i 6spd like you said.

Now that's what I'm talking about.

To fully appreciate automobiles, you must note the strong points and weaknesses:

M3 goodies:
- Crazy speed
- Crazy torque
- Handles like on rails
- Sleek styling
- Sport button (oh so fine)
- Stiff chasis
- TCS,Anti-lock, etc (all the computer stuff)
- Fun to drive (this is what you buy this car for)

M3 baddies:
- Gets SUV MPG
- $55K? please
- Maintenance costs $$$
- Don't miss that "Castrol" oil sucka
- Only 2 doors (Well it's a sports car)
- mfailure.com (not a good sign considering the ratio of peeps that actually drive M3's to problems posted.)
- Engine so powerful yet seems fragile.

I'm sure everyone here can note the good things and bad things about the Maxima. But I tell you one thing: I've had my car for 8 years now (95 SE) If I had a choice to go back in time and buy a car, I would buy the same car. No doubt that I love the Maxima engine. That is why the 3.5L version is in more than 50% of cars Nissan sells including the 350Z and Infiniti V6 cars.
