Cannot decide if I should order the VI......

I am really struggling with this VI thing, let me explain. I recently went to the track for the first time and my best run ended with a very low trap speed of 90.8mph. I went to the track with my CEL on it has been on for 3 months but I always pulled the 0505 code so I thought all was fine. Well since the run at the track I pulled the codes again and found I one of banks was running lean, the culprit was a leak in my homemade midepipe. Well I redid the midpipe and the car is running much smoother I had not realized it was riding so crappy. I am sure that I should be able to trap in the 93-96 range.

I was dead set on getting the VI but with the car running better now I am thinking about throwing on a UDP and free flowing cat and being done with it. I am confident once it cools down I will do better at the track

The Maxima enthusiast in me says imagine the pull all the way to redline and I can only imagine how nice a 5th to 3rd downshift is with it. But the regular Maxima owner in me says “da*n the car is quick enough already be content and shake the MOD BUG” After seeing Bags dyno I must admit that is very impressive. I might just add the UDP and see if that does it for me.

I ordered my VI and im anxiously awaiting it. If you have the money go for it. A UDP is prolly one of the last things you want to do. Andways those 2 combine cost about 350 and a VI costs 550ish.

I say drive to ATL, ride in bag's car, and then go purchase the VI after you see what it can do

pat- biggest question.. when do you want the VI?

Your gonna end up with it. Come on you know you will. If I let you drive my slushbox you'll want one.

Do you want it Now or later?

Also Look at it from a money view... if you get the UDP now and put 1/2 on the VI, thanks to mr.cranman you can do that and the other 1/2 before it is shipped about a month.

that way you will defer the enitre cost of the 2 mods over about a 5-7 week period.

Then since you have everything else might as well get a cat-back

BTW thanks for the love

Bags I will admit I guess I am a little impatient just think if I order it now I will enjoy it until next year (Jan 2003). But you are correct this time next year this mod might be as common as a Y. I am also going back to aftermarket muffler. YOu make several valid points if I order will you help me install it did you reschedule your BBQ and track run maybe we can meet and you can take me for a spin. I will be going to the track when you guys go again.

Let me just say that I have the VI, the RT cat, and a UDP. The latter two don't hold a candle to the VI in terms of performance. I haven't been to the dyno yet, but it's very clear to me that the VI adds some serious power. The urgency of the tach to sweep past 5000rpms in 2nd gear is unreal compared to the way it was before. Hitting 3rd gear at WOT is absolutely wicked. The fact that it revs quicker means it's making quite a bit more power. This isn't a toy you only can feel every once in a while. I use it daily. With the 4600rpms switchover, winding it from 3500-5400 puts a huge smile on my face. You'd be a fool to spend $500 on the UDP/cat when you could spend $620 total on a VI system. Install is simple, just time consuming.

BTW, I ran at the track with a horrible vacuum leak at the midpipe and I was ~.2 and 2mph slower overall. I didn't even know I had a leak until I pulled off my intake one day and someone pointed out the leak. I had been running the car like that for 3 weeks. I couldn't figure out why my car was slightly more sluggish and the intake wasn't as loud. I never got any codes either.

Yeah you are correct and so is Bags, I will take the plunge... wow just to think of how fast you say the tach climbs I am sure it puts a smile on your face I can only imagine.

Thanks for all your replies

Even in my slushbox. my tach flies towards redline faster than it ever has, it'll give you butterflies because it's such an imporvement. And you're 5spd, I'm auto, so imagine your gains compared to mine. Get the VI, wait on the UDP until one of your last mods. If I had to do it again, I'd get the VI 1st, and whatever else follows, this mod rules over all other N/A mods.

at first i wasnt sold on the vi. but when big dogs like dave and bags say its golden that makes me a believer. install just seems like a beyacth. ohh well.

pat the proof is in the pudding. hurry up, bosco and matt might beat you to the punch. <first 5speed in in atlanta with vi>

get it and ill forever be proud of ya.

btw i think the hi flo cat is a waste.

and on top of that the vi seems to respond extremly well to nos and blowers. cant even imangine what it would do with nigels turbo kit.

a vi is on my list but its just way at the bottom. im waiting for nissan or somebody to come out with a ready to install kit.

Yeah, Carl if this thing (VI) is as good as everyone says I cannot imagine the type of pull we have now from 3000-4000 going all the way to 6500 I think it is safe to say after this mod what is left? I am not really looking forward to the install but it has done by a few dozen so it is possible. I am sold.

HOLA my polynesian friend

I see it this way, for the 560 bucks you''' spend on the VI, no other mod is going to match it in HP gain. This is why I purchased on back in May but didn't get it because Roadbeast/Supai stole my money. I'm on the list again because I know what my car will do when I put this sucker on.
