Maxima Trouble

Here's the story. For longer than i can remember, my 96 auto se has absolutely horrible low end power. Today, i thought it might be the throttle cable. So, i tightned it up a little and took a drive. The idle was normal and the pedal felt much stiffer but still had crap low end. So i decided to check the ecu, since the CEL wasnt on, just to make sure. Turns out it was giving me 0304. So i just figured i needed a new knock sensor. By the way, i have been getting horrible gas mileage too. However, about an hour ago, 5 hours after i tightned the cabe, i took a drive in my car. It was idiling at about 500 and less rpms, and shaking like crazy. I dont think it is related to the cable tightening. Also, this morning before my idle got messed up, i took out the air filter with the engine on, to wipe it off to see if that had any effect. I think i have a more complicated problem now than just a bad knock sensor. Thanks.

a bad knock sensor will cause you to have power loss since it will be retarding engine timing unecessariy. This will cause you to get bad gas mileage also. I would replace that first.... also try cleaning the throttle body if it is dirty...

Re: Maxima Trouble

Definitely get a new KS.
The shaking may be due to an intake leak... Did you adjust any vacuum lines to the intake or did you just play with the air filter?
