What to do??

I have a 96 maxima gxe with just a factory spoiler.
it was my parents car but gave it to me in may of this year.
its got over 105000 miles on it right now and every time i start the engine, itmakes funny sounds in the morning. It always makes the funny sounds from a cold engine start. after a while, the noise goes away. AND from a cold engine start, from the outside, the engines sounds like some old buick with squeaks and stuff.

what i did do with the car is change oil and oil filter every 3000 miles. the battery has been replaced right after 100,000 miles and nothing else has been done to this car.

my knock sensor needs to be replaced right now. i think i have a maxima that needs lots of engine work. (my parents only took it for a tune-up at the dealers once.)

i think the automatic transmission is messed up in some way. it changes gears abruptly from 1st to 2nd.

I want to have a faster maxi but i dont know if i should just fix up the problems on this maxi then upgrade, or save the money for a brand new maxi SE and then upgrade that.

I really like this maxima. i wanted to do lots with it like new paint job, skyline body kit, clear white headlights, better wheels and tires, engine mods like that y-pipe thingy and possibly the turbo. (is there turbo for 96 maxi??) would fixing it then upgrading cost too much? should i just save up for a new maxi then mod that?

thanx

I had the same problem with my max when i stared it in the morning. I would squeal until it warmed up. All i did was tighten the tension on the belts and that fixed it. You might want to take a look at that.
