I tried to do search but couldn't find my answers, so I apologize if it's been asked before. We are looking at buying a used Maxima. My questions are- Do they require premium fuel? Is a 5 speed manual better than a automatic? I've test driven but are they comfortable for a long drive? The years that I'm looking at buying a used one is 1997-2000, is one year better than the other? Is there anything maintenance wise that I need to look out for on a used one? Thanks

1)premium fuel: yes
2)5-speed is always better....
3)97-99 are pretty much the same. I think the 99 has a little different emmisions. Also some 99 SE's are 'limited edition', but all the differences are cosmetic. The 2K model is a whole different story.
4)Check http://www.edmunds.com for more maint. info.

Luck, and enjoy the ride!!!

I have a 98SE with 5spd. It prefers premium fuel, but going as low as 89octane is ok if I don't drive it agressively.
5spd or auto is all a personnal preference. I liek 5spd 'cause it is more sporty. You'll find the 2000 larger on the inside, but alot of people I talk to hate the rear light treatment on them (again personnal taste.
Advise, Max with a front strut tower brace and rear sway bar will make it handle many times better than stock and it out handle many cars on the road.
