here's a hint. TURN YOUR CAPS LOCK OFF

CAPS ON = SHOUTING on the net.

People hate that, plus it's annoying to read. If you turn your caps off you might get some more intelligent replies.

I think if your into modding your car then I would go with the 240SX, but if not then any year Maxima would be nice. Not that you can't mod a Maxima, but there's more stuff out there for the 240SX. Personally unless I could get a 4th gen Maxima for thousands cheaper, I would go with a 5th gen. Hope this helps.

Get a 4th gen there are more modds for the 4th gen Max plus the 2000-01 Maximas did not product that much more performance wise over the 4th gen Maximas. Now if you are considering a new Max the decision would be tough but I think the 4th gen would be the best overall value for you.

if u have the money for the swap and the things needed for it, i would just say get a 2k2 6speed. its much roomier, more refined, and will run low to mid 14's with a decint driver. if u cant afford a 2k2, get the 240sx.

Do you need the convenience of four doors and a functional backseat? Then get a Maxima.

If you are looking for a "sportier" car, then get the 240sx. Yeah, the KA24DE blows but there are things that can be done about it. However, there isn't a Maxima made (yet) that can hold a candle to the suspension and handling on a 240sx. Plus, there are a lot more mods readily available for a 240sx. And finally, rear wheel drive. Need I say more?

I'll say get a 240 SX because there is many mods that are available plus a rear wheel drive.

My 2c

My friend had a 240SX...it was decent power wise, but my maxima would smoke him every time. Also, it's never great to have to lean the seat forward and have someone crawl into the back seat. One other thing to consider is driving in the snow. I lived in Colorado, and his 240 was HORRIBLE in snow. Even with studded tires and sand bags in the trunk. Basically it comes down to what you want or need. And I would say get the 5th gen if you can afford it, if not get a 4th gen. There's no huge difference.

Here's a summary of the pros and cons of each (IMO)

240 sx
4 cylinder
Slower
RWD (better handling, but terrible in snow)
Higher insurance rates
Cheapish interior
Easier to mod than maxima
Back seat is worthless (car holds 2 people comfortably)
Why buy one of these when you can pick up a 90-93 300ZX for the same price?
Better gas mileage
Good looking sports coupe
Can upgrade the motor to Chevy 351 V8 (No BS, I saw a guy with one at MIR a couple weeks ago)

MAXIMA
Top V6 in the world for 8 years with the VQ. (All better now SR20DEN?)
Faster
FWD (although if you get a 5th gen with Potenza RE92's it won't be much better than the 240sx on snow)
More refined interior
Cheaper for insurance
Less mods
Great back seat (car holds 5 people comfortably)
4-door sport sedan
Have to put up with all these smart asses on the .org
(oops that was out loud)

There's my 2 cents. Hope that helps.

I would say go for the 4th gen, IMO I still think that the 97-99 SE's are the best looking stock Maxima's. Plus the 97 or 98 was recently voted the best Premium used car by Consumer guide, most of us has not had any major problems with them.

The VQ30DE has only been around since the 1995 model year so it couldn't have been on a list for 10 years. It was actually the main engine that inspired the list to be started in the first place.

The VQ35DE did make the list this year but failed to make the list last year when it was only in the Pathfinder.

now you know..

I really don't think you could go wrong with a 4th or 5th, but do this:

If you're getting a 4th, get a 97-99, or even a 99.5 SE-L.

If you're getting a 5th, get a 2002+.

That should help if there is a money figure involved.

Get a 92 240sx, swap in a SR20DET, some nice coilovers, big brakes, the other usual stuff, and have fun.

SR20DET!

Although you might look into 90 300ZXTT. I believe they're under $12k now which is around what you pay for a 97-99 Maxima non salvage and in great condition. You might have to deal with the high mileage but there's always engine rebuild. If you've got cash, then go for this bad boy. I see 4th gens, 5th gens, and 240s every day. the Z is a rare car. Buy it! And then we can trade

Someone needs to do something original. As awesome as the SR20DET is, it's being a bit played out. How about a '98 240SX with a VQ35DE under the hood. 350SX anyone?
